The Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS helped define the performance side of the G-body era, and well-preserved examples continue to attract attention from enthusiasts and collectors alike. This 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, currently listed on eBay, is presented as a documented survivor with 137,621 miles and a clean title.

Finished in silver with a gray interior, this coupe retains its original character and comes with extensive documentation detailing its history. According to the listing, the car was originally sold at Sawyer Chevrolet in East Lansing, Michigan, and has accumulated a large collection of records over the years, including the original warranty booklet and a handwritten service log documenting maintenance intervals.

Under the hood sits the factory L69 5.0-liter High Output V8, the performance engine offered in the Monte Carlo SS for 1986. This version of the 305 cubic-inch engine was equipped with a factory four-barrel carburetor. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an automatic transmission.
The drivetrain package also includes the GT4 3.73 rear axle and the G80 limited-slip differential. Combined with the F41 suspension, this setup was designed to give the Monte Carlo SS its distinctive performance feel, providing firm handling and strong acceleration characteristics compared to the standard Monte Carlo models of the era.

Inside, the car features a gray cloth interior with a split-bench seat and tilt steering. Another standout option is the CC1 glass T-top roof configuration, a desirable feature among G-body enthusiasts. The listing notes that the original storage bags for the glass panels are included.

The exterior retains its original striping and silver finish. The seller notes that the car received Ziebart undercoating earlier in its life, which has helped preserve the structure of the vehicle over time. The listing also mentions some prior rust repair and paintwork below the lower body stripe, along with minor bubbling and scaling typical of unrestored cars from this era.

Mechanically, the car is described as well sorted, with the L69 V8 starting quietly and running without smoke. The automatic transmission is noted as shifting properly, and the car is said to drive tight and responsive. The listing includes over 75 service receipts documenting maintenance performed over the years. The air conditioning system is currently not functioning.

With factory performance equipment, documented history, and survivor-level originality, this Monte Carlo SS offers an interesting opportunity for anyone interested in preserving a piece of Chevrolet’s 1980s performance heritage.

Would you keep this Monte Carlo SS exactly as a documented survivor, or start adding a few personal touches?

I love the GM G body cars. This looks like a nice one, but the price seems a bit high for me with almost 140K miles on it. Good luck to the owner selling it.
It does seem like a lot for a car with that many miles on it.
A beauty to say the least, the silver makes it really stand out and the T-Tops are always a nice touch just hoping that the seals are not worn and leaking.
Even if it costs a few bucks i’d have the a/c fixed up. I would never dare pimp that up. Just keeping it as the day it rolled off the assembly line would be perfect enough
These were nice cars. A friend of mine is a Chevy dealer and in 86 he had maroon SS with T-tops as a demo. The one thing I didn’t like about his car were the T-tops. Normally I like any form of open air motoring, but the tops on his demo tattled terribly. I’d never experienced anything like that in my Corvettes and would sort of expect a little rattling from T-tops in a conversion on a unit body car like a Camaro or Firebird, but never expected it from factory installed tops n a full frame car. It might have just been an anomaly, maybe the tops on his demo weren’t adjusted properly, but it was annoying and
Im a monte guy 1970-72 and the 85-87 these rode real good felt solid.. This one looks super clean!!
Had an every option 88 MC SS. My t tops never rattled. Miss it. Today, all that is built is butt ugly, uninspiring SUVs.
lot of money for a 140k mile car w/ bench seat. lot of gerry juice dripping of this for sure. no underside shoots. i would want to see the rear frame as that where these like to rot out. dealer listing so no surprise their asking 10k over factory sticker price. IMO markets where they are 9k-12k.
Remember these all over the place in the 80’s but now I never see them. Last really good looking gen. for the Monte Carlo in my opinion. Seller did note of prior paint work and rust repair, which I did notice. Being a MI. car I’d want to see some really good underside photos of it beforehand. Personally I’d prefer it without the t-tops. Gotta love dealers, Hey Steve! Grab that bottle of Armor All and go spray bomb that engine bay lol. Really nice looking overall, but with that mileage and other few issues I think his price is out of the ballpark of reality.
High Output 305, the performance engine 🙄🤣 makes me shudder to think about it. At least Buick had the GO to back up the show. Chev & Olds should’ve been ashamed of what they released. Heaven forbid GM offers a TPI or something in the performance realm of the Corvette or even Camaro. 1st Gen Monte was by far the best, went downhill pretty quick after that. Too bad, I always thought these were handsome cars if nothing else.
Nice looking car but too much for the mileage. Also you can see the rockers on both sides and behind both rear wheels both sides rust is bubbling up under the paint that will need attention soon.
Great looking car, ruined by a split bench seat and auto on the column.
Nice for the miles on it!!
Price is stiff…
I love it! My cousin had a caramel color! Lovely ride! Brings back memories! Wow!
