The 1992 Cadillac DeVille is often forgotten about as many of these flagship sedans languish on corner used car lots nationwide. But when they were new, the feature list was quite extensive and many luxuries we now take for granted debuted in this top-of-the-line cruiser. This example is fresh out of a private collection in Las Vegas and has just 60K miles from new. Find it here on eBay in a no reserve auction ending tomorrow.
A 4.9L V8 was standard, offering up an impressive (for the day) 200 b.h.p. Of course, what’s more amazing is 1992 wasn’t that long ago, and nowadays 2.0L four-cylinders are cranking out numbers well beyond that. What’s worth noting here is how clean the engine bay is for the mileage, which while low, is not bubble-car level; the detailing is impressive and speaks to its past in a museum collection.
The DeVille featured luxuries like rear-seat air conditioning controls and remote keyless entry. The interior looks impeccable – and comfortable – and like it’s hardly been used. The seller says there’s zero evidence of paintwork, no prior accident damage and no rust of any kind to be found on the vehicle. As a 1992 model year vehicle, the DeVille should also have some interesting options like Twilight Sentinel headlight control and side mirrors with defogging capabilities.
I thought this wheel design may indicate this as a Touring Sedan, along with the monochromatic paint job. But the appropriate badges aren’t affixed to the doors, which makes it more likely the DeVille doesn’t have the firmed up suspension or other enhancements that might make it a slightly more entertaining driver. Overall, these may not be valuable vehicles, but they pop up very rarely in condition like we see here.
Sold, $4000.00
A DTS from 12 years later would be just as uncollectable and cheap, but would net you a Northstar, arguably a better built car, and air conditioned seats.
DTS is a more advanced vehicle, true, but then you woild have to contend with N* head gasket and headbolt issues. The 4.9L is a nice, torquey package with all the N* drama and repair cost issues.

GM family in Dayton OH/Moraine. New car every couple years for the grandparent’s. 1987, I’m finally legal & licensed and took that new 88 Caddy out, Torque was impressive. No noise at all. Not as cool as I thought picking up my lady, but were still together. She gets a little worried when I show her the all the great ideas i get here !
Quick update, Thanks !….Mrs will sleep better knowing i wont look at it anymore. Think the 4 O price was pretty reasonable.
Testing,,,I have no interest in this car, but for some reason, my post won’t take on the Nash. I have more trouble with this site than any other. It’s irritating, because it’s such a neat site.
Same thing here at times Howard. Hang in there bud.
These “gold package” cars were really a dealer scam back in the day. I guy would roll onto the lot with an old van and had a small machine that would gold anodize emblems with a small pen like tool while they were on the car. It would take him all of about 15-25 minutes a car. He would charge around $85 per car and the dealer would mark them up about $500 as a rare “gold package”. In a few years the gold would start to wear off or turn brown.
Frickin’ hilarious James !
Think BF should have a story thread submission as well as comments on the cars presented.
Can relate to that “gold package” . Granted I worked in the lowly Dodge dealer (parts/service) through most of the 90’s . The sales staff would up-sell “Special Edition” on all those great early 90’s K based cars (Shadow/Spirit) Don’t know the sum. The guy in the mobile detail truck would slap on stickers prior to delivery.
Needless to say when the dealer had a management shake up, I moved on rather than taking an offered sales position. I wasn’t cut out to sell all those fine extras..I!
I witnessed a lot of undercoating “jobs” as well (lol, OMG).
Not much more than a good, clean used car, not a highly desirable era for GM cars. The Gold package was among the most horrible options; even back then it was tacky, same for the ‘carriage roof”
this is not the touring sedan version. My dad had one of those. different aluminum rims and a little less chrome. It did handle pretty well with the firmer suspension. a touring sedan from that year pictured above
Most old Cadillacs are something to behold. This one is something to unload.
IMO, it was around this time when Cadillacs were becoming Cadillacs again. Mid to late 80s they were kinda blah.
we had one red with white interior and vinyl landau top it was the de elegance model gold it was such a hot car everyone loved it
These were great rental cars and they handled great on the highway.
E&G Classics did a lot of the gold work on these Cadillacs in the late 80s into the 90s. They sold individual parts to your house for you to install or they could do the entire car up at once from a dealer’s request if the dealer dropped the car off or a customer ordered it.
They were not a scam, they were the real deal and sadly went out of business recently.
