Reader Jim S. recently sent us a tip about this TR6, but the ad has been removed and relisted multiple times, hopefully it stays up this time. The seller is asking $2,795 for this project, but is that a good deal? TR6s are going up in value, but is this project complete and solid enough to justify the asking price? As you can see, it has rust issues, but these are body on frame construction, so as long as the frame is solid it shouldn’t be too difficult to repair. There’s just so much rust though that you will likely end up replacing a lot more than just the floors. On the upside, the seller has already recovered the seats and has a new carpet set.
The engine is present and accounted for, but the seller doesn’t provide us with any information about its current condition. There are so many questions that need to be answered! Is the engine free, hows the compression and where are all the missing pieces? If the engine is free, you can get just about everything you’d need to make it run brand new from any number of parts suppliers. Parts aren’t that expensive for these either and they are quite simple machines to work on.
It sounds like the seller has some extra pieces, so you might check and see what other extra they have that they would throw in! So would you take on this project or is it just too rusty for the money?

Absolutely worth it.TR-6’s are some of the coolest cars, and I hope to have one someday. Aside from the rear suspension ( which isn’t really all that scary, plenty of parts around) these are simple, smooth, and dependable top down cruiser’s. ( don’t give me that Lucas baloney, they aren’t that bad) Great deal here. One of these days!
The killer on these is the rear suspension box where the semi-trailing arms attach. It can rust so much that you basically need to replace the frame. grab it, love the ‘baby sh#t’ mustard colour. lol. A good friend of mine had that colour, hence the affectionate name. Frames are repairable simple ladder construction and box design. In fact , the repair manual has an excellent design page on the frame with all the dimensions. Not beyond the average mechanically minded person to fix and understand. As for resetting the body, it helps to brace it up across the door openings, but the whole thing is pretty flexible and there are small aluminium shims to bring it into correct stead. 1970 is the more desirable engine to boot. As for the engine, bone simple. Lever the front balancer to check endplay. If the thrust washers fell out (wear) there could be block/crankshaft damage. Otherwise they are pretty indestructible.
