Got Fins? 1959 Pontiac Bonneville

bo3

Normally I like to include a front 3/4 or side picture as the lead photo for these posts, but the rear styling of this 1959 Bonneville is just too extraordinary to ignore. Between the two-pointed fins, the projections on the bumpers and the oval and round taillights and trim, I don’t think I’ve seen a more distinctive rear style in quite a while! It’s located in Fort Collins, Colorado and is up for auction here on eBay, with a buy-it-now of $3,400 but a starting bid of $1,900 without a reserve. While the Bonneville certainly has some rust issues, the seller is very straightforward about them and includes lots of pictures to help you make a decision. I wish there were a way to fix the rust without repainting completely (I don’t think there is) because the patina on this one with the bare steel wheels just screams vintage NASCAR stock car to me! I really like the distinctive interior as well. Darnit, add another car to the “Jamie’s looking for one of these but can’t have them all” list! How about you?

That would be a great car to cruise the Vegas strip! That body styling and interior, so cool. If it were more solid, I’d be all over it!

Very cool car but too much work for me at my age and bodywork skills to do alone and too cheap to pay big bucks to someone else to do it. Now as far as the mechanical bring it on.

JW, yes, age is probably working against us . I am not too crazy about the color, but this is too rare to change everything the interior looks to be in pretty good shape ( except the dash) . If the engine is beyond repair , to find another 389. If people will go out of their way to bring back a performance car in worse shape, this one is def. doable as for dressing it up, would try to go with the early sixties standard, cruiser skirts chrome exaust spinners curb feelers have to go with the glass packs If I didn’t care about the ” value” I would do a black over red , but, I’d keep the original color

My uncle had one of these that was Royal Amethyst Metallic (Pink) with a white top & black and white interior. Compared to my dad’s 1950 Chevrolet coupe it seemed like a car for a giant. In my opinion, Detroit’s best styling years was from 1955 to 1965.

This one needs a lot of work but I hope someone saves it.

I agree with the vintage stock cat idea…would be better if it was a Catalina post for that purpose, but could be made cool without doing a restoration(just a patch up), numbers n decals, sand n clear…yesss
    I have a ’59 Cat 2 dr post, 4 spd, tri-power…waykool

Needs so much work, so much. Labor of love for a ’59 Pontiac lover. And that’s great. Just know what you are getting into, because this will be a money-losing proposition all the way.

The 59 Pontiacs were one of my favorite models but this baby is way to far gone. I had it’s cousin a 60 Olds Super 88.

Nice project. I like it, 2-door bubble top . Cool then, cool now. Hope someone saves it, it would be labour of love.

Actually the term bubble top only applies to the 1961 GM bodies.

For a hundred bucks and a willingness to spend 25 000 this would be a great car. The Rambler with the stick is cool too. Its great that the seller has saved these. As long as people buy them right ( like for very little) and are willing to spend the money to save them…everybody wims.

The wheels go in the trash, the rust gets repaired and the body and trim colors get coordinated properly.
