Hard Work Done: 1957 Dodge Power Wagon

a vehicle will come up for sale and generate little interest, while at other times a vehicle will appear and generate a lot of interest. This 1957 Dodge Power Wagon definitely seems to fall into the latter category. At the time of writing, there have been 40 bids submitted on it. Located in Piedmont, South Carolina, and offered with a clear title, you will find it listed for sale here on eBay. Bidding on this truck has reached $9,800.

The body of this Power Wagon looks to be as good as the owner claims. For a truck of this age, there are the inevitable minor dents and dings to address, and some surface corrosion is also present, but there appears to be no rust issues with this truck. The owner has started the restoration, so the firewall has been painted, along with the front frame, the front bumper and the winch. It also appears that all of the glass is present and in good condition.

This is where the news starts to get really good on this Dodge project. Nestling there is the 230ci flat-head 6-cylinder engine. If you think that it looks clean, then you are right. That engine has been freshly rebuilt as part of the restoration, so that’s one restoration expense that the new owner won’t have to deal with. Likewise, you can forget about the expense involved in rebuilding the 4-speed manual transmission, as the seller has already done that as well. So, that’s some of the more expensive tasks already completed, leaving the new owner to tackle the panels, paint and interior.

The interior appears to be incomplete, but that may not be the case. There are a number of boxes of components pictured in the ad, and I’m sure that I can pick out instruments and a few other items in the stash. Having said that, what is already present appears to be in good condition, and completing the interior restoration looks like it will take more time and detail work than it will money.

This Dodge Power Wagon seems to represent a great project opportunity for the right person. The body and frame look to be solid and remarkably straight, and a number of the expensive mechanical restoration tasks have already been completed. I think that it is going to be a tremendous vehicle when it is complete.

It seems like there might be some miscommunication since the auction is still active.

I have bought 12 cars on eBay over the years, got burned on 2, each time a zero bidder was involved. I never bid or take a car when it’s been bumped by a zero bidder.

When I see one of these I think of Stacy David’s truck on “Gearz”. Cool truck that’s for sure.

This looks great. A clean starter kit for someone to complete with many of the mechanicals completed!

Man these are awesome pieces of machinery. A shame to see the tacky “Power Wagon” branding recycled on current compensation-grade Ram trucks.

I am about half way finishing up a 1950 PW, I got it in CA with 18k original miles with the only minor rust in the stake pockets of the bed. I have been restoring M37 Dodge military pickups for years but thought I would try a civy. Beautiful trucks absolutely purpose built for a hard life but today bringing prices high enough to make my nose bleed. I don’t know if this truck is sold or not but I would guess it’s going to end up somewhere around 30k when it sells. Completely restored to stock condition they are selling in the 80k to 90k!!! Crazy reality? I am not sure.

I used to drive one of these while working for my grandparents, hauling coal.

Speaking from experience – i would want some serious documentation to back up the ‘re-built’ engine claim. I remember a Bentley i sold once. I’d had the oil changed, carbs tuned and valves adjusted by a prominent and well-thought of Bentley mechanic and that’s exactly what I told my buyer who turned out to be a “flipper” when we saw the car listed on eBay proudly proclaiming it sported an entire engine rebuild by said mechanic! Said mechanic had to send a Cease & Desist letter to the eBay seller to stop the mis-representation. When I see something like this, not even ready to start or run, I have to wonder why it wasn’t finished. Could it be the “rebuild” consisted of a power-washing, new paint and spark plugs? Without documentation you’ll never know until you try to fire it up for the first time.

as stated last time: I like the A, B, C’n D as they have the butterfly hood. Minor point (yet key to these).
    EDIT:
    Oh, wait…may B this IS one…
