Hidden 289 Coupe: 1967 Ford Mustang

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

$5,500 or best offer seems like a very fair price for a 289-equipped 1967 Ford Mustang coupe in claimed original condition. The car was recently exhumed after going into storage in 1986. The seller notes that while it needs full restoration, the hard-to-find pieces are still here and that the interior remains in excellent condition. Find the Mustang here on craigslist, and located in a heated garage in Sheboygan, WI.

The interior really does look quite nice, with well-preserved buckets and the original steering wheel still in place. Paint looks far better in this picture than in the top one, and the original hubcaps are included. The Marti Report is also included in the listing, which validates that it left the factory with Moss Green paint and an Ivy Gold Vinyl interior with bucket seats.

Power steering, AM radio, and wheel covers were the lone options added, so this wasn’t a highly-equipped car. But the pleasing combination of a coupe with the 289 V8 and automatic transmission makes this an easy car to love, even if it’s far from the most desirable Mustang ever built. This strikes me as a car you can simply use and enjoy, and is even more tempting if the seller will genuinely consider best offers, as mentioned in the listing.

I’d like to know more about any potential rust issues, especially given this Mustang hails from Illinois. The photos show trace elements of surface rust, but more photos are needed to validate the condition of the floors and lower sills. Even so, the great color combination and preferred V8 mill under the hood – along with the lack of alterations from stock – make this one tempting if corrosion isn’t unreasonable.

This car has a lot of rust. The 1967/68 Mustangs are my favorite, even the coupes, but this car isn’t worth anywhere near $5,500. Every exterior panel shown in the ad needs attention, the drivers side inner fender has a large rust hole, I’m sure the floors are a mess. It doesn’t even run.

A scan of eBay shows that most 1967 coupes, even in decent restored condition sell in the mid-teens, with west coast drivers often selling for less than $10,000. It’s probably worth a couple of thousand, at most. Anything more than that, I’d keep looking for a better starting point, even at a higher price.

The story says, (in headed guarge) , well it has a flat tire, so I don’t think they pushed the car out like that. It also looks like its been setting there for a while.

You will save a lot of money by finding one with a rust free body…..even if it does not run,

The new owner will most certainly need a MIG welder and a lot of new metal to replace what is damaged. If this one is to ever make It back on the streets and be safe it will need a rotisserie restoration. There is so much wrong that will need fixing. The price is in dream land just the metal work will cost more than the price of the car as noted.

If your first car was exactly like thing one the go for it if not think long and hard about the work involved.

If it was a convertible or sport roof it would be worth it….not a coup they are a dime a dozen you can find one in better condition for same price or less 24/7

Just another run of the mill mustang . The marti report is useless for this car its not rare and every 67 I’ve ever seen had a v8. The color combo is common so nothing great there. $5500 is way overpriced for a $1500 car . Any rust in torque box ,frame areas and rear rails is alot of work for a plane jane car. Good luck !

You can see the ground from the inside floorboard at the left front wheel well. That’s never a good sign of what lurks underneath, if much at all.

Total parts car. Nothing left but bolted on parts. All the steel is gone. Be afraid the car might bend in the middle. Keep doors closed. Had a 3000 Healy parts car for my tri carbed numbers matching car. Looked just like this Mustang except there was no roof to support the car. Great car for parts.
