Ford F250 “Highboys”(not an official Ford term) were abundant and relatively cheap about a decade back; now, they are seeing an uptick in prices and popularity. Highboy is typically the term used for the 4X4 versions of the trucks. The example at hand is up for auction here on eBay. The bidding ends Tuesday, January 7th.
The exterior is assumed to have been finished in a factory-special-ordered color combination of Ford/Mercury Purple on Wimbledon White. It has seen better days and has some significant damage throughout. The truck is said to have a rusted area on the driver’s side rear fender and some smaller rusted areas near the rear corners. There is also a crack in the windshield. A heavy-duty front bumper is installed and includes a wench and bullhorn. The cab has police lights on both sides, which the seller says are potentially non-op but likely fixable.
The interior is finished in purple, with seats wrapped in woven cloth. It appears to be in decent condition, though some obvious decay is present. If the next owner wants this car to be pristine, interior work will be necessary.
The ad does not include images of the engine bay. The seller is unsure what engine is equipped, though they note it is presumed to be a “360.” The truck is said to run and drive well. It shifts smoothly through all 4 gears and the 4-wheel drive option is operable. The seller recommends that the brakes be worked on, though it is currently fully drivable. This truck needs a decent amount of work before it is even close to returning to its prime. The exterior work seems fairly intensive and the interior needs a clean up. The mechanical condition is fairly unknown, so the next owner will likely need to go through it fully to ensure it’s in good working condition. If you are interested in this 1973 Ford F-250 bid on eBay before Tuesday’s auction ends.
These were the standard for a strong 4wd truck.
This truck must have been stunning back in the day. Ah, when you actually could order what you wanted.
These were as tough as they come, but the sellers definition of very little rust and mine vary significantly.
Remember, the definition of “little rust” is with respect to a Ford truck. A housemate from West Virginia had an expression “On a quiet night you can hear a Ford rust.” I do agree that this seller seems overly impressed with the truck relative to what I can see in the pics. Driving it up a sand dune does little to inspire me – every bearing under that truck now needs to be cleaned and repacked.
i live in the rust belt…. for 51 years old , that thing is CLEAN !
Pictures of the engine would help identify it,also would like to see pictures of the wench😉
I had the same question…. still looking for that wench….
The purple looks vaguely familiar; maybe a Lincoln color?
I already own this truck except mine has a utility Box. No AC or power steering. They are a strong truck
Are the spotlights for focusing on the wench’s position? Interesting truck.
F150s have taken a recent PR hit. Will that effect value here?
A recent PR hit, on 1970’s F150’s? When?
“Dusty Highboy” would be a heck of a name for a wild west lawman.
And his trusty horse, F250.
