Hillclimb Champ: 1971 Ginetta G15

After featuring the ice racer, we knew we had to mention this Ginetta. Like the Sonett, this lightweight also has some interesting race history. It won the Grampian Television Scottish Hillclimb Championship in 1983 before the current owner imported it in 1988. They started to disassemble everything in preparation for a restoration. That obviously never happened, so it is now listed here on eBay for $4,900 obo.

That is a $2,600 price drop since it was first listed back in January! The fact that Ginetta is mostly unknown on these shores and that this one is in boxes, makes it a hard sale. Still, we wouldn’t mind having it in our garage. The Imp sourced engine may have been tiny, but with a curb weight around 1,200 pounds, the stock G15 meant pure driving fun. In hill climb trim, this thing has got to be a real handful!

Flared rear guards look great. Almost worth buying just for the gold wheels. Imp engine had to be detuned for production so there must be room to move with these powerplants.

I used to see these, Elva’s, & other light weight screamers at Lime Rock Park. Very cool.

I looked into buying this car last year however it is missing the engine and transaxle plus if I remember correctly some of the hard to find glass. It would have been a fast car when all the parts put back plus engine.
