How Low Can You Go? 1946 Dodge WD-21

1946 Dodge Delivery Truck

What we have here is a cool project truck that the seller says is pretty much all there. Well, that is if you don’t include an engine, transmission, hood or an interior as being important parts of the truck. Listed here on craigslist in Chicago, Illinois and sitting in Naperville is this 1946 Dodge WD-21 Delivery project truck with a price of $3,500 or best offer.

The seller is a builder of custom chassis’ for hot-rods and old trucks. Perhaps they are hoping some buyer will want to do a “turn-key” custom in his shop?

We do not know what the buyer will receive with the purchase of the body. The ad is not clear which parts maybe included, but at this moment it would seem the the body is just siting on the ground.

According to the seller the cab was in a storage container for years so it’s “pretty mint”. The box was left outside so most of the wood is long gone and would need to be restored. The ad includes images of other projects that the seller may have completed. You may wish to contact them for more details on this shell, and if interested, the costs to turn this into your next ride.

Motor-on,
Robert

I have a 47 wd21. I wish this was alot closer. Parts for the inside are hard to find.

Well worth the dollar. I’d put the box back behind the garage as a storage box, and concentrate on what’s left. (which ain’t much) Seems the advertiser is more concerned with showing off everything BUT the truck. Looks like a S-10 front end, which probably is the way to go. Lot of work here. I say totally not worth the time. Sell the cab and fenders to someone that needs them.

Clearly the first picture shows it’s been bagged with narrowed axles.

Put it on a modern chassis and put it back to work. I’d love to use this as a work truck.

Something like this in mint condition would be great. Call me overly optimistic (again) but there’s a lot of potential here. You could put a modern chassis under it but I’d be inclined to use a 1-ton; the fenders have a larger opening than a 1/2 ton so a 1-ton would look a lot better, not to mention that the chassis is already a tonner. On the other hand, the standard 1-ton chassis would be just fine but you’d need something more powerful than the 230 flathead six unless you wanted to show more than go. A V8 would be difficult to get in around the steering column so I’d be tempted to install a Cummins 4BT3.9 which would fit into that engine bay without a lot of problems. A 6BT5.9 would require you to chop out the firewall but it would be powerful. Lots of potential. Hope the buyer tries to keep it looking original.

    Another silly craigslist daydreamer.

Cab is ‘pretty mint”? Doesn’t count the battered fenders I suppose. I would pass.
