In-Between Barn Find: 1974 Ford Bronco

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

We have seen a lot of first generation Ford Broncos lately, but most appear to either be of the completely restored/preserved type or total restoration projects. This vehicle is in that in-between realm where it can be driven as-is or refurbished over time to the new owner’s satisfaction. It’s for sale here on eBay where bidding is up to over $12,000 (reserve not met). It’s located in Jackson, Mississippi.

The seller states that this was a genuine barn find that they have done some work on. Some rust in the rocker panels has been cut out and replaced with good metal. There’s some rust that remains in the tailgate (a replacement can be had for around $400 according to the seller) and in some of the floor panels — the seller has done a good job of including pictures of what rust there is in the auction listing.

I suppose if you eventually want a mint condition Bronco this one is probably not for you. However, if what you really want is a vintage SUV to drive and use this may be perfect.

The interior doesn’t look bad at all considering its age. A new dash pad has been installed along with a new rubber floor mat. The windshield and weatherstripping for it have been replaced as well.

Many times this rear seat is missing. Not sure I’d want to spend much time back there anyway!

This is the 302 V8 engine, presumably the original one, and it’s attached to an automatic transmission. In other news, the brakes have been completely refurbished since these pictures were taken, and the seller has also replaced both fuel tanks and all the hoses as well as the sending units. The wiper motor and cover for it have also been replaced. Does this vintage SUV make you long for the trail? Or does it trail other, newer options that are more readily available? I actually like these first generation Broncos better than the bigger Blazer like later ones. A buddy of mine had a 1967 with a six standard. That thing could go anywhere with its narrow body and short wheelbase.

Looks surprisingly decent. A good platform to start with.

If the reserve isn’t more than 15K count me in.

Sweet looking Ford Bronco. I’ve always preferred this version of the Bronco than the much larger version that replaced it.

It’s a great start! But the automatic transmission is a bummer!

Yep and the high center of Gravity could put one of these on its side in the hands of an inexperienced driver. Nice driver though!!

Good luck to the new owner
