This 1962 Volvo P1800 is an impressively straight barn find, a quality you don’t always find with cars that have been stored for extended periods of time. Despite the coating of dust indicating an extended hiatus from the road, this P1800 coupe looks like it is just a wash away from being the stunner that it is. All the details, from the hubcaps to the chrome, look correct, and it is an earlier Jensen-built example. Find it here on eBay with bids approaching $7K and the reserve unmet.
The P1800 has always been known for its looks, with its swoopy bodywork penned by designers sharing close affiliations with Frua and Ghia, and still looking ravishing today. The chrome remains in excellent shape and bumpers look laser straight. All glass remains intact and the matching wheel covers are an unexpected bonus. The seller claims the paint is original.
The interior is complete, and really just looks tired and perhaps in need of a new carpet kit. The door panels appear to be tidy but you may notice the dash pad is missing; rest assured, other gallery photos show it sitting in the trunk. I wonder if it’s a rare crack-free top and a previous owner stuck it in the trunk so it wouldn’t crack if the P1800 ended up being exposed to sun.
The engine is numbers-matching, and the seller confirms it runs and starts. That’s very encouraging and offers further evidence that this P1800 was carefully stored. It’s rare to find a barn find with a dent- and damage-free body, and especially so to find one that still runs when fired up. Volvo enthusiasts love these cars, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it command top dollar.
Don’t wash off any of that Jensen dirt!
Exotic swap? These are great looking cars.
Ecotec.
If it isn’t rot underneath it is a worthy of a costly restoration. The real rarity partswise are the correct wheel covers.
I’m over the “barn find” look. Wash this nasty car and vacuum it out and show us it’s best look! I don’t want to bid on something that maybe it’s solid maybe it’s not but I can’t tell because it’s covered in crap!
There are no numbers-matching on a Volvo! On a Volvo you have Body No, Engine No and Chassis No. Non of them are the same No.
You can check if the engine is same as was fitted at the factory but for that you need the factory build sheet. That was never going outside the factory.
Why even comment on the engine starting and running? It is a B-series push rod Volvo engine. It starts/it runs. That’s a given. Kids today….
The only other engines with this sort of reliability/durability say Massey-Ferguson or Farmall on them. Truly bullet proof.
Unbelievable to see a Jensen built P series that has no major apparent rust! From what I have read they would rust if left out in a heavy dew. Having said that, this ticks all the boxes for me, bulls horn bumpers, correct wheel covers, early dash. With the exception of the modern head unit in the dash, what’s not to like? I already hate the new owner.
Yes worked on the body of a couple- the Jensen bodies were awful full of lead and crap if the metal didn’t rust away
Hagertys says 12 grand for good condition and double that for #3.
This car is very nice shape so looks like an easy resto.
Bidding is lagging. I would expect this to bring at least 20 ?
