The early ‘90s Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 still holds a special place in Corvette history, and this 1991 example brings the full package: 6-speed manual, black-on-black color scheme, and the legendary LT5 engine. Showing 76,000 miles, it’s offered here on eBay by a dealer at no reserve, with bidding underway and the car located in the U.S. The seller notes the car runs great with cold A/C, though the Bose stereo is inoperative, an issue many C4 owners will recognize. Cosmetic imperfections in the paint and interior are described as consistent with the age and mileage, and a good detailing could bring out even more shine. With headers and a Corsa exhaust, this ZR-1 should sound every bit as exciting as it looks.

Even with a few minor blemishes, the black paint still has a deep gloss, and the wide stance of the ZR-1 gives it away instantly as something special compared to a standard C4. The subtle badging and wider rear haunches set it apart for those who know what they’re looking at. The seller points out that a skilled detailer could elevate the finish considerably. While some ZR-1s have lived pampered lives, this one has clearly been enjoyed on the road, but still presents well enough for shows or weekend cruises.

Inside, the black leather cockpit appears original, showing typical wear for the mileage. The radio issue is blamed on the common Bose system failure of the era, which many owners replace with modern units while keeping the original for originality’s sake.

The real star here is the 5.7-liter LT5 V8, a 375-horsepower masterpiece co-developed with Lotus and assembled by Mercury Marine. Known for its smooth power delivery and high-revving nature, the LT5 helped the ZR-1 earn its “King of the Hill” nickname. The headers and Corsa exhaust should make this one even more of a thrill to drive.

While the seller lacks service records or the original “pizza box” documentation, this ZR-1 still represents an opportunity to own one of the most advanced American sports cars of its era without breaking the bank. The no-reserve format means someone will take it home, could it be you?

Dammit Bobby!
Having watched these for years, I note that almost all the ones I see up for sale are 1991 models. With the model in production for model years 1990 to 1995, I wonder why that is. Perhaps I’m missing something?
Production numbers were 1990-3049, 1991-2044, 1993-1995 were 448 each year with horsepower raised to 405 HP 1993-1995. Did not know production was so low 1993-1995 would guess the 93-95 models would be worth more with the low production numbers and the increase of horsepower.
A one-owner, 3000 mile, black on black 1990 sold for $45,000 this week on another site that suggests you bring a trailer. Many commented that it was a good purchase. The car appeared flawless and had recently been appraised and serviced by the ZR-Specialist, Marc Haibeck, at his Chicago-area shop. That is as good as it gets in the world of ZR-1s. Kind of like having God give your ride a thumbs-up.
Most Corvette specialty shops and major Corvette parts suppliers offer Bose rebuild services. The commonr problem is the amps that are located in the speakers. Not a major deal.
SOLD for $19,200.
And maybe, well-bought. We never hear much about the success stories.
