I’m guessing many of our readers are thinking the same thing I was upon first glance at this 1969 Dodge Charger R/T, that the car is actually a ’68 model, judging from the grille and that round side-marker light on the passenger side front fender. It’s a bit deceiving, but the Charger is actually a ’69 with one 1968 front fender and an R/T grille from 1968, along with a door from one year prior. While this one is going to need some work to get back to its glory days, it is mostly complete and the pedigree is good, so if you’ve been in the market for a second-generation B-Body this 1969 Dodge Charger R/T may be a good match for you. Located in San Diego, California, it can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $27,200 with the reserve not yet met.
The good news is that this Charger is a true L-Code, indicating that it left the factory in Hamtramck, Michigan with the high-performance 440 cubic inch 4-barrel engine, but the bad news is that the car doesn’t still have that original motor, although it does have the correct 4-barrel throttle linkage and 7-blade fan. The good news is that it does still have the original numbers-matching Hemi 4-speed, and is also equipped with an A33 Track Pack and sure-grip Dana 60 with 3.55 gears. The original Hemi suspension is also still intact, with 7-leaf right and 6-leaf left springs.
The interior is mostly all there, although it’s in need of quite a bit of refreshing. The seller says the dash pad needs to be replaced, but calls the lower part of the dashboard great, which may be a little optimistic but it doesn’t look all that bad. The radio and ashtray are not in the dash but there is a photo included that shows both of these items, so the buyer should be receiving them with the car. The original Hurst shifter is still in place and the black door panels are said to be excellent, but those buckets are gonna need some attention even for a driver-quality vehicle.
The Charger is said to be a mostly rust-free California car, with one very small quarter-size hole in the driver’s side floor pan. The frame rails are said to be 100% solid, and although the trunk pan is going to need replacing things underneath are looking a lot better than many of the B-Bodies that we see coming up for sale.
Obviously, this Charger is going to take some time and energy to make something really good out of it, but it does have potential and is not nearly as far gone as many of the late sixties muscle cars that are being taken on as projects. There’s also a buy-it-now option for $50,000 if you’ve got to have it today! What are your thoughts on this 1969 Dodge Charger R/T?
I’m surprised the bin is 50k, I figured 60k at least.
Took another look at the calendar; nope still 19 days to go…
I think 50K is a little over the top. I do understand that it is in an easily restore -able condition, but with the condition of the interior, the trunk pan needing to be replaced, and the fact that it is missing its original engine + other possible parts, I would say the top I would be willing to pay for this car is 35-40K
As stated this is a 1968 Charger so I do not know why you continue to refer to it as a 1969 Model. As a 1968 model it should have dual round tail lights as 1969 Models had the longer rectangular type tail lights which were a more pleasing design feature of the 1969/70 model year vehicles.
The seller listed it as a ’69 but Mike mentioned right in the first paragraph that it is actually a ’68.
As a quote “I’m guessing many of our readers are thinking the same thing I was upon first glance at this 1969 Dodge Charger R/T, that the car is actually a ’68 model, judging from the grille and that round side-marker light on the passenger side front fender. $50K for a vehicle that needs a total restoration without the original engine is too much$$$$ the sad part is someone will actually buy it. I’m going to find a 68-69 base model coronet and build my own A12 tribute car that I can actually drive and not have to worry about it too much getting banged up or stolen.
Sorry to correct you Jesse but the article says it’s actually a 69 Charger with a 68 fender and grill. I just reread it.
Most fools don’t have that kind of money unless they are that dumb. This thing is a rat
Well, I have to disagree. I know a lot of fools with too much money. Acquiring money doesn’t always require smarts. We have many glaring examples around us to prove just that.
I could not have said that any better without being mean.
Yawn…bedtime.
Mopar Junk!

If you want to be in the 68-70 Charger 440 game, you gotta pay to play.
