LeMay Mystery Vault Cracked Open!

Lucky Auctions Fall Sale

For the past 38 years a car show has been held outside of Tacoma, Washington. It started as a small gathering at the home of Harold and Nancy LeMay. That last name may sound familiar because Harold and his wife once owned what many consider to be the largest collection of cars ever assembled. At one point they reportedly had over 3,000 vehicles! These were serious car people and they wanted their legacy to live on, so they organized a yearly car show and formed a museum. Both continue today and both have grown into something much larger than Harold could have ever imagined. The LeMay museum is a professional operation and the car show is attended by thousands. For a while now the yearly event has also featured an auction that the museum used to sell off some of their extra stock. Well, that has also grown into something impressive. The resulting auction company goes by the name of Lucky Collector Car Auctions.

LeMay Vaults Opened

The good guys who get to manage these sales have got to feel lucky, but we here at Barn Finds feel the same because we have enjoyed their generous support for a few years now. Anyone in the Tacoma area should feel lucky too because a bunch of great cars are going to be auctioned off with no reserves at the end of this month – many of which have come directly out of the LeMay vaults! Some highlights include a ’61 Imperial Convertible, a ’56 Mercury Monterey Phaeton, a ’53 Plymouth Cranbrook, and more. There are even a couple of pre-war cars crossing the block including a ’37 LaSalle Coupe, a ’41 Oldsmobile Eight, and a ’35 Dodge Deluxe 6. My personal favorite though has got to be the home-built race car that was constructed sometime in the forties! It probably wouldn’t be the wisest purchase of the weekend, but I bet it would be the most fun. Please let us know if any of you are planning on attending this auction. It’s going to be a big one and I have a feeling that a few bargains will be had!

Oh wow, my father bought a used 1940 Oldsmobile after WWII. Those headlights are so close together I bet people wondered what was coming down the road at night!
