While any type of racing takes a certain level of courage, the early Midget racers take an exceptionally high level of courage to race. If you’d love to experience some of the thrill of racing one of these little cars you might want to have a look at this 1928 Chevy Vintage Midget Racer, listed here on eBay, that can occasionally be seen running in Brockport, New York with a starting price of $6,500 and zero bids at the time of writing. This racer has had a ground up restoration and you can see it does run even though it’s not street legal.
The seller provided some photos of the car prior and during its restoration, you can see it was quite rough. And yes, the shifter is between the driver’s legs.
Here she is in project form. The engine is a 4 cylinder overhead cam, 21 horsepower 170 cubic inch.
Nicely restored engine mounted in the frame.
This is the custom trailer with new wheels, tires, rims and winch which is part of this auction. The owner calls this Midget, truly museum quality and should make some collector very happy. So, are you that person by chance?
Motor-on,
Robert
Nice, and looks like a really fun undertaking…but something seems wrong about the tire size… wonder if they are supposed to be that small? I think I would find some skinny 18 or 20 inch ones if I could.
I’m with Doug M., tires and wheels are all wrong for this car.
Agreed. All that money and effort on restoration but the wheels make it look like a cheap go-cart toy!
Overhead cam? Really?
I think he meant to say overhead valve.
Guess that shifter give a new meaning to “Ball Buster”!
My second comment – all that time and $$$$ – WHY?
“It has had a ground off restoration”
Who could resist?
