Lightly Restored: 1979 Chevrolet K5 Blazer

Despite being just the second owner of this 1979 Chevrolet K5 Blazer and having just over 30,000 miles on the clock, the seller has attempted some light restoration on this classic squarebody truck. It’s nothing major, but it has been resprayed from its original shade of Midnight Black into a classic two-tone scheme that while not original, is an OEM look. The Chevy rides on clean Rally wheels and comes with its matching hardtop, and the seller notes that it is in excellent condition overall. Find it here on eBay where bidding is at $22,500 with the reserve unmet.

That’s a strong number for one of these trucks, and I’m guessing it’s due to the pool of potential buyers liking that low mileage history even with the respray in its history file. The seller is emphatic about the fact that the Blazer was always stored indoors or otherwise under cover, which makes it even more surprising that it needed a respray. Truthfully, as much as the color scheme may be sharp and to OEM standards, I’m not sure it wouldn’t have been better to repaint it black like the factory did to keep such a low-mileage truck as original as possible.

Now, the seller says he had the paint job done this way to match the color scheme of the interior. I can see this, so at least the seller had the foresight to pick a non-original paint job that complements the truck in some capacity. The interior is in excellent condition and looks like that of a low-mileage truck with untorn upholstery on the bucket seats, mint door panels, beautiful carpeting, and an untracked dashboard. The steering wheel is the biggest letdown overall, as it just doesn’t look as fresh as the other surfaces. That’s a minor detail, however, and one that’s easily addressed.

Underhood, the venerable 350 V8 presents very well with clean cosmetics all around. The listing doesn’t go into any great detail about recent maintenance, but these engines generally don’t need much in the way of excessive upkeep. The low mileage, beautiful paintwork, and near-mint interior are certainly good reasons to drive the price higher on this classic Blazer, and while I think the current bid is fair for the condition, I’m not at all surprised to see the reserve on the listing given you know there’s someone out there willing to pay big money for a survivor Blazer – even one with a repsray in its past.

I’m wondering if the square body was a Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth “copy”?

Sorry. My little brother pointed out the K5 portion of my previous post.
