Luxury Cloud: 1947 Cadillac 60 Special

left front

The 1947 model was essentially the same design as the prewar Cadillacs with only a few changes made to the trim, but given how great a design it was, it makes sense. This Cadillac has been in a private collection for a while now. It appears complete, original, runs and drives very well. It’s listed here on eBay in Lodi, New Jersey. Bidding ends Monday and has reached almost $8,000.

inside front

The interior and dash appear to be in beautiful condition. It really does look like it was well cared for.

Things under the hood look very original and untouched. It could look really nice with a little cleaning.

The chrome looks to be in great shape. The paint looks dull in this picture, but shiny in others. It’s likely the reflection of the clouds. There is at least one area of peeling paint and surface rust. If this car is as nice as it looks, it would be a beautiful driver. Because it has too many doors, it may sell for a reasonable price. It will be interesting to see what those who appreciate these old cars think of this one.

Somebody kept this very protected for a long time. It’s more desirable to me in this condition than if it was restored.

  2. Stang1968

If this were in my neighborhood it would have glass packs, a swamp cooler and windshield shade, and fishtail exhaust tips poking out from under the bumper.

  3. Van

    Polish the paint and chrome.
Add CTS badge to the rear.
    Tell everyone it’s new.
Act like anyone that disagrees is confused.
    “I don’t know what you’re talking about, it’s a brand new demo.”
Did they wear zoot suits in 47?

  4. Bob Hess

Had a ’48 Hearse in college with the same driveline in it. To this day I haven’t seen and engine run as smooth as that Caddy flat head.

I don’t believe it is original paint, but it looks pretty good except that passenger side hood corner. Wish I could get this one… Engine bay is great looking.
They are asking $9,995 on the website and bidding is at $9000. 4 Days left…

Beautiful as it is, I’d have it gone over to assure myself it wouldnt leave me stranded. And drive it as is until ?????????????????? BTW, every time I see one of these Caddys head on, Grille & hood (Center) I think of the ’49 Chrysler Highlander my Dad had back when I was just a wee one. I’d sit on the foldwd down center armrest between Mom and Dad while my older Sister & Brother sat in the back wailing the piss outta each other.

  7. Curt

This is not a 60 Special (Fleetwood)…it is a 62 series. What gives it away, from the angle of the shots, is the rain gutter would be split between the doors on a 60 Special. I had a lot of miles in a ’47 Fleetwood as a teen back in the late 40s, so take my word for it.

The Ebay ad says series 62..

  8. Curt

Beautiful piece of art either way.
