While we get excited about seeing a classic car covered in dust, sometimes the after photos are just as rewarding. The seller claims this 1992 Ford Mustang GT convertible was discovered in a Miami, Florida garage after the original owners developed back issues and could no longer use it. This Fox-body was purchased as a Valentine’s Day present and clearly used carefully before being left to gather dust and sit on flat tires in their garage. The seller purchased the vehicle and got it running before discovering there was a bad synchro on the transmission, which has since been rebuilt. Find the Mustang GT here on craigslist with an asking price of $15,000.
The Mustang presents extremely well, and the seller lists the original mileage as being a hair under 71,000. The top appears to be quite nice, and the paint shines up well. The original color-matched covers on the taillights remain in place, and I love this detail as it’s completely typical of the early 90s era of car styling. The top is original, and the seller actually claims the paint could use some work – perhaps a color correction – but from where I’m sitting, it’s still quite nice. The description includes a long list of repairs and some outstanding items, which goes to show you that even gently used garage finds can need a fair amount of reconditioning.
The interior presents well, and the air conditioning works. There were some nagging issues identified inside, including the need to replace the rear window regulators. Other problems are left for the next owner to resolve, including an intermittent airbag light, non-functioning heat, dead passenger power door lock, broken ashtray door, and a broken A/C vent. The heat has actually been disconnected, which is likely a failed heater core. I’m surprised given how well the car cleaned up that there are these myriad issues inside – were the previous owners careless? Combined with the busted 3rd to 4th gear synchro, it makes you wonder if the older owners simply got careless as their years advanced.
Regardless, the seller has done a boat-load of work to make this cherry red Mustang GT a turnkey driver. This includes a new fuel tank; new fuel pump; new fuel sender pickup; battery hold down kit; rear end cover gasket and fluids; spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor; new coil; PCV valve; fuel injectors, and fuel pressure regulator; new aluminum radiator, hoses, and thermostat; and more. The T5 has been rebuilt, and the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, flywheel bolts, and rear main seal were replaced at the same time. This is a nice example of a fast-appreciating Fox body with the hard work done. I think the asking price is fair – what about you?
One of the better craigslist ads I’ve seen in a while. Lots of information on what the seller has done to the car, and what remains to be done. The worst part is the (probable) need to do the extensive and frustrating heater core replacement. The car has had lots of work but the seller admits it has paint flaws. Has the preferred 5-speed. Overall it looks like a good Fox Body convertible, and to answer Jeff’s question, I think the work done to-date makes the purchase price pretty close.
Well, perhaps the heater core may be a bit easier to replace with the top down. Still not and easy job but more tolerable.
Hmmm…good writeup but I think you accidentally swapped “issues back” with “back issues”? Either way, it’s a little troubling seeing all the “issues” this car has had in only 71K miles. 3rd to 4th synchro grind is an odd one. Missing interior pieces. Maybe the kids “borrowed” the GT a few times when mom and dad were out of town and abused it?
Syncros no surprise. Clutch cable stretches over time, self adjusting quadrant doesnt always take up the slack unless the pedal is lifted, pedal starts to release close to the floor but isnt fully disengaging the clutch between shifts, still driveable so goes unaddressed but wears syncros.
I ❤ the cheese-graters.
Nice car! If I was rollin in a 5.0 like this in Miami, I would put the ragtop down so my hair could blow, then continue to A1A Beachfront Avenue…
…yeah man, and if the girlies on standy waved just to say “Hi”, I wouldn’t stop, I’d just drive by.
Nice car and the attention to bring back to life, however I think price is a bit optimistic. Convertibles are the least desirable of the foxes (even though it is a 5.0 5spd) and with the cost paint and new top in the near future, I think this is “all the money”.
Word to your Mother, Matt G!

Another case of the term ‘garage find’ being overused.
Wifey had one of these when I met her, we had a good time in it. Had to buy her a nice car when we had critters.
Well I think 15k is very optimistic
The maintenance items don’t really jack the price up for me! The heater core replacement is a pain in the xxxx I did mine in a 87 GT convertible!! I know why they want $500 have to pull the entire dash! I have the rear window regulators still to do on my car! My car is a twin to this car Red with black top!
I was just wondering, are there more Mustangs featured in Barn Finds over any other car from our past?
This was. the funnest car i ever had. Mine was the same color red with a white convertible top and white leather interior. Sadly it was put in shop. for minor work and the mechanic crossed wires on battery which caused the interior to catch fire. It only had 87,000 miles on it. i sold it last year and the guy that bought it redid it the same as this one. Whomever says 15 k too much does not understand. If i had it i would buy tonite.
Owned one of these for a bit. It was so much fun to drive. I’m actually in Miami and very tempted….
