Mopar Barn: 1971 Dodge Charger

1971 Dodge Charger SE

Here at Barn Finds, we have a wide appreciation for all kinds of cars, but over the past few months I have been finding myself more interested in Mopars. I don’t know what it is about them that has been drawing me in. I spotted this ’71 Charger SE here on eBay and while it is a legitimate barn find, I’m actually more interested in what else might be hiding in this barn. As you can see, there is a yellow Challenger parked next to it and other cars under covers in the background.

This seller has all kinds of stuff listed on eBay, including some Mopar parts, but none of the other cars have been listed. Of the Chargers, the ’71 is my least favorite purely from a style standpoint. This one could look good after fixing the rust and paint issues. It’s also going to need a new interior and all we know about the engine is that it doesn’t run.

I see a lot of rust issues and areas of concern with this Charger, but if you are a fan of this generation of Mopars, this one might be worth saving! At the very least, it would be worth checking out just to see what else is in the barn with it! So are you a fan of this body style?

My love for Chargers starts at 68 & ends at 70, like every other Tom, Dick & Harry. I’ll pass on this project as the finished item wouldn’t be all that desirable to me and the market.

Even when they were brand new, this year held no draw for me. Mopar fed it too many steriods and plumped it up like a bloated Thanksgiving turkey! That Challenger is a whole different story though! I’d love to have it!

I don’t have much love for this year of chargers . But years ago I worked with a guy that had a 71 r/t loaded and fast. 440/pistolgrip 4spd hideaway headlights, bulge hood with louvers and more. brown with white stripes and white int.Last I heard he still has it. I still liked my purple 70 440 cuda better though.

66/7 were the ones I liked, they looked like they meant business. One thing that always rang true with Mopars was great drive trains crappy bodies. They alway seem to have a poor fit to them and the doors sounded like tin cans when you closed them, that said Mopars are sill my favourite.

383 2-bbl, not a barnstormer but more a boulevard cruiser. The pics seem like it’s a true barn find, unlike so many flippers now who roll their latest find off the trailer, throw some hay in front and staple a pig to the bumper or whatever, and advertise it as such.

Still a beautiful body style. I remember seeing one at the auto show, so different from the 68-70 Charger but still a Charger. This body style won more NASCAR races than the 68-70 body style, Richard Petty drove this body style Charger until 1977! I had one as a “sunny weather” car for 15 years. I sold it to a friend out in Arizona back in 2000, I miss it a little more now.
