No Reserve Driver: 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS

1968 Chevrolet Chevelle Mailbu SS clone

This is a 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS clone. It notes that information clearly in the title of the listing. Currently, it has reached $8,850 and there is no reserve. There is a VIN provided and this car is being sold by a licensed Kentucky dealer, in Owingsville, who does not want to store the car this winter. They are upfront about the mileage being unknown due to the 5 digit odometer. You can view more on eBay.

The listing states that the car has a 327 cubic-inch, small block V8 under the hood that is connected to a turbo 350 automatic transmission. They also note that it has a 10 bolt rear end. Beyond that, they do say it runs and is a solid driving vehicle. According to the listing they have put new tires on it recently and there are a few rust spots. The car has been repainted at some point and they note that everything electrical is operational.

Inside, they note that the headliner has come apart, and they have provided photos of that blemish. It is respectable of them doing so. Not often do you come across a seller who will call out a fault, show it, and own it. This seller even reminds you that it is a driver, not a show car, but wouldn’t take much to be one. If you see a missing driver side mirror, they have since replaced it after the photo was taken.

This listing has enough photos and information to get a very accurate gauge on the condition of this car. With no reserve, this has a lot of potential to be a great car for an even better price. Sure, it might be a clone, but in the grand scheme of things, does it really matter? Most people you pass by won’t even know the difference and nor will they care. Wouldn’t it be more fun to have a car that you can drive around in, show off, and enjoy?

I had to look up what a clone car is. Not sure if I would want one. to search
VIN cloning or car cloning, is a practice of using a vehicle identification number (VIN) from a legally registered car to hide the identity of a stolen or salvaged vehicle.[1] The procedure involves replacing the serial plate of a stolen or salvage repaired vehicle with a plate containing the number of a validly registered vehicle of similar make, model and year from another state, province or country.

Cloning is taking a Malibu and putting SS badges and a big block in it and calling it an SS imitation ie, clone. Not illegal if you let the buyer know. Changing the vin or trim tag is known as re-bodying which is very illegal and not very nice. Cloning, if done nicely and correctly, can cost almost as much as buying a REAL SS and fixing it. You can throw one together pretty cheap if you do it yourself and just use it as a driver. Some cars have vin numbers that tell if they are real or if they are a fake. Just FYI. Buyer beware.

Barry, what they are trying to disclose is this car is a 1986 Chevy Malibu made to appear as if it is a 1968 Chevelle SS.

Didn’t know Chevrolet made an SS 327 Chevelle in ’68, heck, as long the seller is honest about what it is it’s fine.
Cool ride with some small block zip, loads of summertime fun.

There’s been a couple good, informed comments here but some are shall we say, interesting? Looks like an enjoyable driver.
