No Reserve K5: 1977 Chevrolet Blazer

The seller of this 1977 Chevrolet Blazer has listed it on behalf of his friend, the owner, and claims he doesn’t know much about it. Fortunately, the condition looks clean enough to alleviate any major concerns about its condition, and it’s located in the vintage vehicle-friendly climate of Washington State. The Chevy is said to have 90,000 original miles and run quite nicely, with no issues firing up and driving down the road. The Blazer is listed here on eBay with no reserve, and bidding is currently at $7,400 with the auction ending Sunday night.

There’s rarely a shortage of K5 Blazers to choose from on eBay, so the question soon becomes: what sets one apart from another? In this case, I’d say it’s the no reserve auction. The Blazers of this vintage have been quickly rising in price for a few years now, so finding one that’s not perfect but still quite honest and listed with no reserve is a good combination. The seller notes the removable hard top is in good condition, and the chrome bumpers and brushed tailgate decor strip look better than the truck’s age would suggest. The listing discloses that the Blazer could use some TLC, but doesn’t go into specifics.

The interior isn’t perfect, but it’s also perfectly acceptable for a driver-quality Blazer. Actually, the list of gripes is pretty small, especially since the seat upholstery, carpeting, and dash pad all appear to be in fine shape. There’s some sagging of the map pockets and the seatbelts are dirty in one of the pictures, but that’s it for major flaws. One detail worth mentioning is the fact that the rear bench retains its factory upholstery, suggesting that the front buckets have been previously redone – which explains why they present so well. The Blazer is well equipped, featuring factory tilt wheel, cruise control, and air conditioning.

The 350 V8 is said to fire up and run with ease. Power is put to the ground via an automatic transmission, and taking the long way home will be made more pleasant with factory cruise control. The engine bay is nicely preserved, and I’m willing to bet it presents that nicely with no extra effort made to detail it. This Blazer is pleasingly stock, with a wheel and tire package that indicates it has never been modified for off-road use or even made to look like it could go off-road. The original K5 Blazer will always command a following, and a solid example like this with no reserve seems like the smart way to buy one.

Hmm, so that’s what my original colors looked like. Great find.

These were great vehicles, but here in the NE you could hear them rust, sure is nice to see a solid one in 2020! Good luck and stay safe.

There is a 88 Chevy Blazer K5 with a 5.7 in it that was replaced by original owner 16 years ago. 2nd owner says that the rig is fully loaded. He is selling for $12,500, and has it listed in Denver Craigs. He will trade it for a really clean Chevy station wagon or El Camino.

I used to own a 86 CUCV with the 6.2 Detroit Diesel in it. I liked the ruggedness of it. Sounded good and had the rubber mat flooring in it. The rear had no covering on it making it feel more like a truck bed which I used to haul away bush cuttings and old grass sod with the rear seat folded and pushed up. When I see the carpet on these civilian K5s, I don’t personally like it. That’s just because I’ve owned the CUCV. I’m sure if I owned the civilian type, I’d be ok with it. But then again, I might say to myself “I’d rather have the old and loud CUCV again.”

Not only the CUCVs got the rubber floor covers. They were standard issue in the budget oriented Custom/ Custom DeLuxe K5s unless carpeted floors were specified.
Also; if one wanted the passenger and rear seats in one of these low trim Blazers those seats were actually extra cost items…!

I wish people wouldn’t “detail” the engine compartments and undersides with cans of black spray paint. Other than that, not a bad looking Blazer!

Not to nitpick this Blazer, but… the tailgate chrome trim is chrome and black vs chrome and yellow as it should be, and is present on the rest of the vehicle. This might indicate the tailgate having been damaged at some point in her life, and since the chrome/yellow trim was a one year only thing, that the body shop assigned to perform the repairs, might not have been able to source the correct trim.

These were available in some great color combos. This is not one of them.
