No Reserve Nova! 1970 Chevrolet Nova Project

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

As the trailer suggests, this 1970 Chevrolet Nova in Eads, Tennessee is one “find” away from its long-time owner. It comes to market here on eBay as the unfinished project of a long-time owner who unfortunately passed on to the big Cruise Weekend in the Sky before completing it. With a fresh small-block, lots of new parts, and a solid body and interior, this Chevy awaits a buyer with the vision and desire to get this project over the finish line. At least two bidders have driven the market value above $7000.

Additional pictures from beneath the car show a mixture of good (new gas tank and exhaust) and bad (everything else looks untouched). That approach is rarely taken on TV-style high-dollar builds, but it’s hard to fault someone for wanting to get their car running, and maybe an inspection sticker, before addressing other systems like pin-holes of rust and petrified suspension bushings.

Nearly everything functional appears to have been replaced or touched-up. Upgrades like Lokar or similar dipsticks for oil and transmission fluid, finned Corvette-style valve covers, and shiny cast thermostat housing, while not extravagant, put this Chevy squarely in the Custom category. The seller lacks any details on the engine’s status, but 300 HP (net) would be reasonable unless the loving former owner expended his entire budget on shiny doo-dads.

Little beyond the SS steering wheel and under-dash gauges deviate from stock. A time-honored duct tape arm rest repair adorns the right door. Green often gets a “pass” if resale is on your mind, but if you like it, all the better for you! You could drive this classic as-is or flex your credit card and replace everything. What color would you paint this nifty Nova?

“a long-time owner who unfortunately passed on to the big Cruise Weekend in the Sky before completing it”. Yes, again we read this ending so many times.

What it shows is that we are all sort of just “renting” these cars for a time. They ultimately get passed to another “renter” and again and again.

We truly need to enjoy the ride while we have it. Life is short.

Bla Bla Bla….another primer Chevy project. Fresh flip. Poor owner passed and I bought it and can’t wait to sell it. In fact haven’t got it home yet and have pics already!

From the green bench and Nova door panels don’t let the SS on the steering wheel fool you. Just another plain old Nova. Most likely a factory clicking six lived under the hood. This project is ripe for the 800 build a car catalogs.

This summer we will most likely see this car painted up (take your pick at color) Big and little wheels (Torque thrust knock off’s) and complementary SS emblems at the local cruise in.

    Can’t wait

Well,…. you can’t fault the current owner from trying to “flip it”. I have no doubt you have done the same previously or would consider doing so now if you had no need to keep it. Nothing to see here.
Obviously someone’s work in progress, to which they could revel in their aspirations and dreams, enjoying every moment (sometimes) while embedded under the hood or car. Unfortunate he or she could not complete it. Not a AMC, but just a fun driver quality “go fast” car, which yes, at some point, you indeed may see it at your local cruise in. Enjoy.

I’d pass at this price. The car has a lot of Chinese parts thrown at it such as valve covers, air filter, water neck and wheels I’d assume the dipsticks are Chinese copies too. The quality of the completed work isn’t the greatest, such as the fuel line routing. As mentioned above, it’s in primer and needs an unknown amount of rust repair, drum brake master cylinder as well as an overhaul of the interior. Someone would be better off to keep saving and buy a better car when one turns up.

Black interior would be nicer but not a bad project with most of the heavy lifting done but not at this price with all the things that will nickel and dime you!!! Oh and let’s not forget bumpers and a paint job!!!

Someone was crying about parts made in China on this car well that’s life with auto parts most are made in other counties Mexico etc but the Nova is an affordable car to restore.

Heck, I’d drive it in all its old glory primer grey street/strip machine looks. Same color as the ’68 Chevelle I bothered the neighbors with years ago. That look was actually somewhat common.
Whatever the new owner does with this Nova it should include the three letters…FUN.
