An Isuzu P’up is nearly impossible to find these days, but add features like the turbo diesel powerplant and a long bed and you have a recipe for unobtanium. This 1986 model shows incredibly well, with a rust-free body, highly original interior and of course, that long-lived powerplant. Find it here on eBay with no bids at the opening number – just under $5K.
The length of the bed seems oddly disproportionate to the rest of the truck, but at least it’s mildly more functional than smaller models. The body really is impressively straight, and four matching hub caps is a plus. The seller claims it runs and shifts smoothly, but it does have some clearcoat peel beginning on the hood and on the roof.
Those are minor flaws for a truck this obscure, and the important feature here is that desirable and long-lived diesel powerplant. These motors have a reputation for being impossible to kill, and with just under 120,000 miles, there’s likely plenty of life left in this one. The seller notes recent maintenance includes a new timing belt, radiator, and water pump.
Check out that interior – this is a truck not used for work. More likely a commuter to still look that good. The seller doesn’t elaborate on how it was used, but does mention that the engine “…has 50,000 miles and third-gen rods,” so apparently the motor is not the original. If that’s the true mileage, than this P’up has even further to go and a bed big enough to make it a capable and efficient hauler.
Cool truck for weekend projects. I like the “rare” fake shaker hood bump. $3,500 would be a good price.
1986 Isuzu p’up LS Turbo/d SPACECAB…. that is rare…. and i got one
I’ll never understand where the market for simple, rugged, no-frill trucks (with manual transmissions) went.
Killer truck! Add 4WD and this “ten” truck would be an “eleven”.
Great find!
Had one as a company truck many years ago. topped out at 70 MPH if I shifted it down to 4th and floored it. Needed to be jumped if left out on cold nights, and leaked about 5 Quarts of oil a week. Of course it saw a lot of hard driving over the years.
It’s nice to see an 80s Isuzu Diesel that doesn’t look like it had been completely demolished on the inside, and outside. This one I could actually pay good money for and not regret it.
Ahhhh somehow the starting bid has now been raised to $5690?? With 0 bidds! Delusions of grandeur?
If I were in the market for a truck, I’d buy an Isuzu P’up Diesel.
I’ve always found the Space Cab to be the best looking Isuzu P’up style.
