Not Much Left: 1974 Porsche 911 Targa

front end

We’ve found another inexpensive Porsche and this one doesn’t even have much rust, although there isn’t much of the car left. This parted out 911 Targa is listed here on craigslist for $5,500. It’s in Calgary, so if the asking is in Canadian dollars, that’s about $4,100 US. The question is, of course, why was it parted out if it’s such a good car. Where the parts worth more alone than the complete car?

inside

It is helpful to see the bare bits. The rust in the rocker and sill doesn’t look too bad from here. Perhaps a buyer could fix the rust and and use the parts from a wrecked or rusted out Porsche to build this car car?

And speaking of wrecked cars, if you buy the one above, the seller has another Targa shell that they will throw in for an additional $1,000. Many of the parts pictured have already been removed, so we assume it is as barren as the other car. So could you build a solid shell out of this pair and then find all the necessary bits to finish it? Seeing as it isn’t going to be original, you could do all kinds of interesting things with this, but is there enough left here to make it worth the work?

The best answer is it’s a unrecovered stolen. Probably ditto for the blue one in the lake.

Very funny Mr. Jones!! I’ve got a pile of rust I’ll sell you. It may just be from rebar though. I can put a VIN tag on it.

Maybe it will be built up as a race car? I am no longer interested in 911’s. The whole Porsche hobby is now grossing me out. Like the cars, just don’t like the perceived value. It’s not there. Build up a Yenko Stinger clone for peanuts if you want air cooled fun.

I got sour on the Corvette hobby for the same reason: way too much ink on investment potential, rare issues, one-of-a-kinds, limited editions, every other year is a Pace Car and all that other phony crap. I’d still like to find a sharp 1993 40th Ann. but that’s it for me. All the rest are toothpaste.

Bella. I said the same thing about AH 3000. Still waiting, 20 years later. Had one in the 1970’s.

It will fall apart on nonsense like this, but solid and rustfree cars or survivors will always be worth something.
