One Owner Fox Body: 1992 Ford Mustang GT

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1992 Ford Mustang GT has supposedly been in storage since 1996, and recently emerged with around 60,000 miles on the clock. The cosmetics are slightly rough but given how many of these cars end up abused or otherwise neglected, finding one that has been hidden away from the sloppy hands of a 16-year-old driver makes this one worth looking at as a potential restoration candidate. The seller has the Mustang listed here on eBay with an opening bid of $15,000.

Now, I will never understand this approach to selling a car. The big opening bid price is sure to be a turn off to just about everyone, even the people who actually want the car. It’s not to say that someone wouldn’t bid it up to this number, but forcing potential buyers into the highest possible bracket right out of the gate just doesn’t make sense if they’ll naturally end up there anyway. Bidding strategy aside, this Mustang would benefit from a proper detailing and some extra effort put into its presentation, as it appears to be quite honest underneath that grime. The factor buckets look to be in very good condition.

Despite its years off the road, this Fox body – like so many others – still has some modifications, and the one we can see here is a cold air intake. This is by no means the end of the world, but just a reminder that these cars are rarely left stock, even when neglected for decades. If you wanted to bring this one back to completely original condition, it would not be difficult to do. To the seller’s credit, he has tackled a lot of deferred maintenance, which likely factors into his suggested opening bid.

Recent work includes new tires, brakes, fuel pump, fuel tank, fuel tank filler neck, oil change, transmission, and a differential fluid change. The paint is said to be original, and that’s obvious from the photos. What remains to be seen is whether it will come back to life with a paint correction or if it needs more than that. If this Mustang needs a cosmetic restoration, that will have to be factored into the purchase price as well, but as it stands, this looks like a worthwhile project.

Nice but needs a few long week-ends of workto make it presentable. I’m surprised the seats look so good. A very deep clean of the carpeting needed and at worse replacement. Affordable and easy to do and a polishing of the instruments lens. Engine bay wise a good clean up and polishing the upper intake or repaint ( did that on my 91 Crown Vic) and trash the cold air kit return to o.e.m.. Outside is clean the headlamps up,repaint mirrors and trim. Everything here is not impossible for the d.i.y. Just one thing if i’m tearing out the insides for the carpeting i’m sending it to my local repair shop to have the heater core done.

Decent car, but, when the seller bought this one-owner car no one knew they’d ever have any real value other than 60’s era and the odd Shelby so why did it get parked as that mileage was probably put on within the first 4-5 years of ownership. The CAI would indicate that someone was intending to push it a bit so it would seem plausible it has some issue needing sorting out. It hasn’t been in a garage this whole time the headlights and somewhat cloudy clearcoat attest to that but the interior and engine bay seem to show it wasn’t abused at all. All that said it’s not worth near what his/her starting point is particularly if someone wants to return it to showroom. Personally I’d just fix the mechanicals and run it.

They did figure out the “rattle” in the rear though! Back of seats and folding floor pans use to rattle against each other. I have a small piece of rubber trim on bottom of floor piece where it hits the back seat. Lots of people thought it was the rear hatch rattling.

I always thought the body-kit clad GT models looked best in black or white paint.

Is that water or condensation in the instrument panel? Is this possibly a flood car? I don’t know, just asking?

I don’t think so. To me that looks more like Armour All residue on the outside of the lens.

I have one also 89GT original white only after market stuff bbk air intake and bbk long tubes,& 17″wheels with only 39xxx original miles. Has been sitting in climate control storage started ran to temp twice a year. Till now I drove it this summer so it started summer at 36xxx. I was offered $12.5 & $13,000 cash in hand but I turned it down cause I would probably never find another one with the miles never wrecked perfect interior head liner to carpet original primer under the car.

Hmmm…where did i put that Summit catalog? That is where this thing needs to take a trip through….Alot of these have been coming out of the woodwork this year and all are asking too much for the most part.you know for$15-20k one could just get a 2010 or newer GT with twice the power and performance….

Who ever this owner is thinks it’s the best looking GT out there. I have seen a couple that you could eat off the floor they were so clean for cheaper.
