Orange Dream: 1979 Chevrolet Blazer

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Don’t be fooled by the seller’s location in Scarborough, Maine: this beautiful creamsicle-hued 1979 Chevrolet Blazer is a California survivor that has simply taken off for the East coast for its retirement years. The color is phenomenal and would likely help this truck net a fair price even if it were in significantly worse condition. However, this Blazer looks pretty solid and is listed here on eBay with bids to $20,000 and a Buy-It-Now of $35,000.

In my opinion, far too many sellers of K5 Blazers list the truck with the roof on. With the roof off, the entire appearance of this classic squarebody rig is transformed, and it helps conjure up visions of bonfires on the beach, bushwhacking old fire roads, and simply having your closest friends hanging out the back at a drive-in. With the roof on, it’s hard to go there in your mind, so kudos to this seller for presenting the truck in all of its summertime-fun-glory.

The interior has to have been redone at some point, as it simply looks too new and undisturbed to be original. Regardless, this is an original upholstery pattern that I believe was offered new, and it looks great here paired against the orange-painted dash and tan carpeting. The Blazer comes with a center armrest and what looks like power windows and locks. The seller has shortchanged the Blazer a bit, in my opinion, as you simply don’t find trucks in this sort of condition with the added bonus of a rare paint scheme – and the description is a bit underwhelming.

The seller claims his plans were to restore this Blazer “…to a $90K-$100K” example, which I can’t fault given the baseline truck seems worthy of such an investment. This Blazer (fortunately or unfortunately) has restomod written all over it, but I hope it doesn’t come to that. The opportunity to own a California-bred truck in a great color with a minty interior and healthy drivetrain doesn’t come along often, so my personal feeling is that this one deserves its Buy-It-Now price. What do you think is fair?

What a beautiful K5. Only disappointment to be found is that the factory A/C has been completely removed from it.

Lots of Holley peripherals, but a carter/edelbrock peeks out……..decent ride
Concours K5 does bring 6 figures, good investment if another 20k could be spent.

Awesome truck, not factory ac, gauge cluster, bezel and HVAC controls are from a 80s model.
I think the price is very fair considering what these are going for in much worse shape.

I like it a lot! It seems to be in great condition. I have an 83 Chevy K10 shortbed pickup and I love it! Still has her original 305 but I have serious plans to swap that for a 350 crate engine. Nothing radical, nothing high performance. Just a new 4 bolt main 350 truck engine with EFI or maybe stick with the quadrajet that I bought rebuilt last year from Summit racing. I use it as a daily driver in spring summer and fall and then she’s tucked away for the Pennsylvania salt months. She is in need of a driver side bed side but the interior is mint Scottsdale trim. Another truck I would love to have is an early to mid 70s Ford F250 high boy. So cool 👍

Yes the 5th generation f250 highboy, beat to death and very rare. I just finished a 3 year restoration to stock of a ’68 I call it the sexy beast, gvwr 10K. 9 mpg with proper tire pressure, doors close like a frigidaire.

Very nice truck , not 35k nice to me.
I’ve had 9 of these in GMC/ Blazer form.
    Even the 6.2 diesels versions.
I see orange over spray on the cowl weather strip, no oil fill cap.
Broncos were much nicer to drive and better interiors. The GM’s exterior looked better to me. 35 and no air?

Nice truck, but it is a ’79 not a “72, the top on or off will be a p I t a in the northeast, best leave topless and store in the winter. Interior is nice, those blazers were made for a 350 w/ headers and a 350 turbo.going back and forth to grocery store and keggers was its duty

Good looking K5 imo. Would have to make sure stopped, turned, and ran well tho. Not hot rod it, just sea worthy so to speak. Also like the call it convertible nature with the roof missing, almost a different vehicle.

I going to help “non square body” people.1977 was the yr of good axles, not corporate 10 bolts, this has a np203 full time transfer case is “cast iron”236#s, chain driven, which are prone to failure, which are unattainable. And the limited photos do show G.M.s direct drive hubs very bad! Lift kit on blazer bad.no structure. Cloth seats not! Worn original paint. If it even moves a mall cruiser at best. $ 20 k. I’ll pass
