Outdoor Collection: Pontiac Firebird and Chevrolet Chevelles

There are four classic cars sitting outside and under pole barns in the small town of Wylie, Texas which is just northeast of the the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. Three of the four cars are not in running condition. There is a 1971 Pontiac Firebird, a 1966 and 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle and the fourth car is a running 1966 Chevrolet Malibu. The seller is asking $3,400 for the 1971 Pontiac Firebird, $1,000 for the 1966 Chevelle, $6,500 for the 1967 Chevelle SS and $13,500 for the 1966 Malibu. The cars have been listed for about a week here on FaceBook Marketplace.

Under the hood of the 1971 Firebird is a Pontiac 350 cubic inch V8 engine backed by an automatic transmission. The car is probably restorable but could also be used as a parts cars. Pontiac offered their 350 cubic inch V8 and 400 cubic inch V8 engines in the 1971 Firebird. If you ordered the base Firebird, you could get the 250 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder engine. The 350 cubic inch V8 engine was rated at 255 gross horsepower and the 400 cubic inch V8 engine was rated at 265 horsepower with a 2 barrel carburetor. The 455 cubic inch V8 was available in the Formula and Trans Am models.

The interior of the 1971 Firebird is pretty much a mess. It looks like all the soft pieces will need to be restored or replaced. The seller has clear title but the car has no radiator and is not running. The ad states that the car has over 250,000 miles on it. Still the bucket seats, console and cool dash layout are still recognizable. The two Chevelles are not in as good a shape as the Firebird. As shown below, the 1966 Chevelle is just a body with no front clip and is priced accordingly. The 1967 Chevelle SS looks to be in much better condition. It is a roller with no engine. Both cars have been sitting for a long time.

The 1966 Malibu is running and is in need of restoration.  The interior of this car is in shambles but is restorable. The seller does have some extra parts to go with the cars so it might be worth going to investigate these four classics in person.

a plus for the firebird is its original 350 engine. give it a rebuild and turn it into a sleeper with all the original 350 badging. another plus is the firebird was baked in TEXAS and was on a very low salt diet . it should be nice sheet metal through out. you just need an eastern firebird interior. to bad your not closer to PA. i could use the body…

The people that allow cars like these to get in the bad shape like these should be drawn and quartered. We have to keep these classic cars in good shape. They aren’t making them anymore!

They weren’t classics when they were driven, just one of thousands , and nobody thought about preserving them after a few years when they were beaters. You should be happy they weren’t crushed 40 years ago like 98% of their siblings
