    Straight-Eight Style: 1931 Hudson 8 Coupe

This 1931 Hudson 8 coupe, offered here on Facebook Marketplace, presents as a well-preserved example of one of the era’s more distinctive luxury cars. Finished in blue (green according to the ad) over a brown interior, it’s powered by Hudson’s straight-eight engine paired with a manual transmission. The seller notes recent mechanical attention, including a rebuilt carburetor, a cleaned fuel tank, and a new 6-volt electric fuel pump. With a clean title and what’s described as “very good condition,” this coupe could be ready for vintage touring, with some light paintwork and cleaning, or careful preservation. Thanks for the tip Zappenduster!

Power steering and power brakes make it an easy driver, and the lowered stance gives it a sportier look without losing its classic lines. The seller hasn’t provided extensive details on mileage or history, but at first glance, it presents as a solid, ready-to-enjoy cruiser. Thanks for the tip Curvette!

  • Stored 30 Years: 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Ville

Stored 30 Years: 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Ville

Some auto styling fads seem to fade away about as quickly as they emerge, but one that stuck around for a while was the tailfin, which was most popular during the 1950s and early 1960s.  Designers tried to outdo each other when it came to the size and shape of rear fins, with the 1959 Cadillac de Ville among those getting more than an honorable mention when it came to mass.  However, in addition to being large, they also succeeded in the good looks department.  This 1959 Coupe de Ville here on eBay could use a restoration, but it appears like decent material to work with if you’re seeking a late fifties luxurious project.  This one’s in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with the high bid currently standing at $19,700. • Single-Family Survivor: 1980 Triumph Spitfire

    Single-Family Survivor: 1980 Triumph Spitfire

This 1980 Triumph Spitfire, now offered here on eBay, has been with the same family since new. The seller’s father purchased it in 1980, and it has remained in their care for 45 years. Showing just 45,000 miles, the British-built roadster wears green paint over a tan interior and features a 4-cylinder engine paired with a manual transmission. It’s drivable, but with a missing rear window, some oil burning, and a few minor issues, it’s best suited as a project or occasional weekend car rather than a daily driver. The clean title is in the seller’s name, and the removable hardtop shown in the photos is included.

  • Grabber Blue 1970 Mustang Grabber

    Grabber Blue 1970 Mustang Grabber

You could be forgiven if you mistook the 1970 Mustang Sportsroof above for a Boss 302. But something isn’t quite right. Weren’t those side stripes used on the ’69 Boss? Shouldn’t the ’70 Boss have stripes on the hood? As you’ve probably surmised, this is not a Boss 302, but instead the similarly rare but not quite as valuable Mustang Grabber. The Grabber was a “Special Value Package” intended to promote not only Ford’s bright “Grabber” colors but also to sell a few Mustangs. Only 5,120 Grabbers were built, according to Kevin Marti, and Grabber Blue was the most popular color (1,384 sold). What does this do for the value of this otherwise base Sportsroof? Barn Finds reader Mitchell G. found this beauty on craigslist in Butler, Pennsylvania, and considering the ad has been posted for 17 days, the asking price of $48,500 may be a little more than what Mustang fans are willing to spend.

  • Half Price? 1990 Buick Reatta Coupe

Half Price? 1990 Buick Reatta Coupe

On paper, the Buick Reatta should have been a runaway hit. A two-seater from Buick? A sports coupe with rear-wheel drive and the latest 1980s technology from Buick? As often happens, the concept in the auto world, or the design world, in general, is to sell the big idea, and then engineers and accountants get involved. This 1990 Buick Reatta Coupe with faux convertible top is posted here on craigslist in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and they’re asking $3,900. Here is the original listing, and thanks to Mitchell G. for the tip!

  • 46K Original Miles: 1983 Ferrari 308 Quattrovalvole

    46K Original Miles: 1983 Ferrari 308 Quattrovalvole

The Ferrari 308 features a profile that is instantly recognizable, capturing the essence of 80s sportscar motoring better than perhaps any other marque or model. While every manufacturer was impacted by the malaise era in some regard, the 308 seemingly suffered less than other models solely because of its high levels of visibility made possible by the Magnum P.I. television show, along with being seen as the stereotypical “rich guy’s” car. The 308’s sexy shape, exotic mid-engine design, and stirring performance with a classic gated manual shifter made for a compelling package, and this 1983 model listed here on eBay is listed for $77,900 or best offer.

20 Year Old Restoration: 1977 VW Beetle

Air-cooled Volkswagen Beetles are nothing new on the project/hobby car landscape. In fact, you could say they suffer from the sin of being familiar, and because of that, these charming Bugs rarely fly off the shelf once they come up for sale. However, there’s something to be said for finding an example in decent condition with strong cosmetics – for a reasonable price – that makes them a surprisingly appealing option as a starter hobby car. This 1977 Volkswagen Beetle listed here on craigslist was supposedly restored 20 years ago and it still looks quite tidy, all for just $12,000.

  • 1953 Siata-Ford 208S Cabriolet Speciale by Stabilimenti Farina

1953 Siata-Ford 208S Cabriolet Speciale by Stabilimenti Farina

If last week’s Siata was too expensive for you, we have another entry vying for your wallet, at less than half price! Here at RM Sotheby’s is this unique 1953 Siata-Ford cabriolet, commissioned by Jimmy Mulgrew, a Ford dealer, in the early 1950s. (Was he jealous of Wacky Arnolt’s Siata sedan? Car guys get around, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility.) As the story goes, Mulgrew and his buddy Dick Irish, the famous racer, concocted a plan to send a 1951 Ford to Siata for a wholesale transformation into the cabriolet on offer. Situated on a lengthened Siata 208S frame, but retaining its Ford flathead, with aluminum coachwork by Stabilimenti Farina, this one-off was displayed at Mulgrew’s dealership after its completion in 1953. It cycled through numerous owners in later years, finally receiving a restoration in the late 1980s. After a multi-decade slumber, a new owner undertook another restoration, splitting the car among several experts across continents: the body was restored in Germany, while the mechanicals were rebuilt in California. This Siata remains registered in the Netherlands; the new owner may need to cope with importation and re-registration. For your trouble, and since it bears a mundane Ford flathead, the estimate is $225,000 to $300,000 – far less than a purebred Siata. The car will be auctioned in Monterey on August 15th.  Thanks to Araknid78 – as always – for this wonderful tip!

Recent SS Clone: 1970 Chevrolet Nova

In its ninth year in 1970, the Chevrolet Nova was still at or near the top of the U.S. sales chart for compact cars (307,000 units). Many of them came with econobox power (6-cylinder), including the seller’s grandfather’s coupe. But in the past year, it’s undergone a restomod/SS transformation that should be plenty potent at 389 hp. Located in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, this sweet ride is available here on craigslist for $32,000. Bravo, Mitchell G., for another stellar tip! (more…)

  • Lotus Alternative: 1970 Ford Cortina Mk II 1600E

Lotus Alternative: 1970 Ford Cortina Mk II 1600E

When Ford collaborated with Lotus, the result was a Cortina that enjoyed success on the track and in the showroom. The downside is that today, the Lotus Cortina’s desirability means it tends to attract high prices in the classic car market. This 1970 Cortina Mk II 1600E could be a more affordable alternative. It presents extremely well and is ready to head to a new home. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Mitchell G. for spotting the Cortina listed here on Craigslist in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. The seller set their price at $22,900 for this little British gem. (more…)
