Pair of 1960s Austin-Healey 3000 Projects

Introduced in 1959, the Austin-Healey 3000 was a British sports car larger than most, earning the nickname “big Healey’s”. Jensen Motors made the bodies, while British Motor Corp. took care of the rest. In production through 1967, more than 90% of them were exported with the U.S. market being a prime target. The seller owns a pair of these cars, one from 1965 and the other from 1967, and they might make up one good car when their contents are merged. Hats off to “Vinny” for the tip!

These popular cars were powered by a 3.0-liter inline-6 which was rated at up to 150 hp depending on the model year. As a result, they did well in their class when running in some of Europe’s auto rallies back in the day. The seller’s interest in these sports cars goes back several years when he/she acquired the 1965 edition seen here in the 1970s. The other one, from 1967, was added five years ago when the seller contemplated merging the pair. However, the seller has rethought the amount of work that will be needed and will leave the task to someone else. This duo and a plethora of parts will only be sold as a package deal.

1965 A-H 3000 Mk III (white)

While this car looks to be the worst of the pair, it’s actually the best when it comes to bodywork. So, this would be the one to add parts to, not take away from. The vehicle was dismantled many moons ago with 52,000 miles on the odometer. It has no engine or transmission at this stage, and the interior is mostly bare. But the photos provided show an enormous inventory of parts that should help put Humpty Dumpty together again.

1967 A-H 3000 Mk III (green)

We’re told the body, and chassis are too far gone to be useful, so this car will serve as a donor for the other. The odometer reads 102,000 miles and the vehicle was last registered in 1990, yet the engine runs and sounds great. Because the fuel delivery system is in poor shape, the motor will only run on a bottle or can at the moment. The 4-speed manual transmission also has overdrive.

Of the Mk III genre of these cars, more than 17,700 were built, so they were plentiful in their day, and you still see them running around occasionally. If it will be helpful, a spare engine will be thrown in by the seller and it’s said to have just 29,000 miles. Located in Claymont, Delaware, the seller is asking $10,000 for the whole package here on craigslist. If you’re handy with tools and have the time and spare coin to devote to this overall project, is this opportunity up your alley?
