Pampered Pickup: 1941 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special

051916 Barn Finds - 1941 Cadillac 60 Special - 1

This one is a head-turner more than a head-scratcher, even though it’s an unusual custom build. This beautifully-done 1941 Cadillac 60 Special Pickup is in Terre Haute, Indiana and is listed on eBay with a price of $19,000 or make an offer.

The craftsmanship on this vehicle is fantastic, the owner was a huge Cadillac fan and he massaged a former Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special flower car into the pickup that you see here. The only non-Cadillac part is the 1947 Chevrolet pickup bed that was grafted onto the back. It also has “1953 Eldorado spoke wire wheels and it is converted to a 12 volt system.” The seller is the son of the builder of this gorgeous car and he said that it was the last car that his dad worked on.

You can see that this gentleman was a big Cadillac fan by looking in the garage. I have seen a few of these custom pickups and this one is probably the nicest workmanship that I’ve ever seen. Normally I like things original or restored to original spec, but I personally wouldn’t want an original-spec flower car so this one is really intriguing to me.

The interior is superb, as you’d expect by seeing the exterior and how nice that is. There are too many interior photos but it’s a small interior with just the one perfect, bench seat. The headliner looks perfect as does everything else in there.

This is Cadillac’s L-head 346 V8 with 150 hp and it also looks great. The seller mentions that the drivetrain will need to be serviced because it’s been in storage for so long. A version of this engine was used in tanks, as in, actual tanks in WWII, so they’re pretty tough. This car looks like a winner to me, and also a bargain. You get the best of both worlds with this car: a fantastic Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special and also a pickup for those light-duty hauling tasks on your to-do list. And, for hauling home those car show trophies. Are you a fan of custom Cadillac pickups?

Very cruise-able truck. The proportions are wrong and right at the same time! Looks like a sweet deal to me.

As an owner of a 1941 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special, in High School no less, I was really ready to be offended. But since it was made from a flower car a real 60S was not sacrificed. I like it and happy that they kept the wonderful flathead V8. IMHO, the 60S Cad was the most beautiful design of all the Cads. AND, Oh Boy, was I popular in high school with THAT car…..draggin’ the Main on friday night !!

I can’t make up my mind, The original rear fenders clash with the squared off nature of the pickup bedside. Still I’d love to have it. Come on boys set up a gofundme page for the old guy…lets put Woodie in a Caddie!

Fantastic looking car the build quality is at least from what can be seen in the pictures looks very well done. This is a great way to revive an old car that would other wise be relegated to a parts car or end up rusting away in someone’s back yard. The fabricator of this old beauty should be commended for bring this back to the road. I know there are some that would think that this is a waste of a great 60 series caddy, I think that not every car needs to be a perfect restoration back to original. There are plenty of trailer queens already the lawns at pebble beach prove that. I really like this build and would have no problem having this in my garage. Great find.

    It’s well done!
But I could see the bed removed and a deck lid added.. Maybe a rumble seat?

I agree, quite a nice job here. Be perfect for a slide in camper. Now who’s got the coolest unit in the campground?

What it needs is the rear tailgate saying Cadillac in raised letters to finish it off.

I like it, but it does seem to be too square of a bed or maybe it’s the open space behind the rear fenders and under the tailgate that’s looks a little out of place.

    Still an awesome custom caddy!

If this is a converted flower car, I suspect the original conversion was from a standard 60S sedan into a flower car, as this isn’t the much longer commercial chassis. I used to own what was one of the rarest ’41 60 Specials, as it had both Hydramatic and a sliding steel sunroof!

If I hit the MegaBall this weekend, this might be in the ICON shop next weekend becoming a Reformer….

I really like this! Usually I don’t care for conversions, preferring cars that are true to the day they rolled off of the assembly line. Since this car started off as a flower car this is a logical conversion and it looks great!

The ’41 had the front fenders stopping in front of the doors…just saying. Must be one of the custom features. Spent a lot of time in a ’47 Fleetwood as a teen before I had a DL…what great cars.

I bought a 41 model 62 that was converted to a pickup. It had a CHEVY phaeton rear grafted on to the chop. It had a custom stepside bed. Metal fenders and running Running boards on a wooden sided Bed. Story was that it was Owned by a VP From standard oil, who had the rear cut off and donated to the war effort. Then had the car customized to a pickup for his farm in NJ. Later, car was owned by a sign painter in NYC. I Bought it in Phillipsburg N J in 1977. It was in a garage that had been the basement of a house that got knocked down by a car. It was built into a bank, with corrogated metal roof over the immense beams of the building. A car went airborne in 1980, and landed on the roof, crushing and breaking the beams. The car actually saved the young man’s life. His head was through the windshield. The car kept the beam from beheading him. Alas, he had no insurance. The car sold for parts.

Found pictures of a flower car, ugly compared to this “conversion”

Scotty G you say the interior is superb but looking at the pics it looks like the back of the head liner and the sunvisors are covered in mold.
