Parked For 40 Years: 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air

1955 Chevrolet Bel Air

The owner of this 1955 Chevy project supposedly start the restoration all the way back in 1976. They painted the frame and replaced some of the suspension components, but didn’t get much further than that. Forty years later they have decided to let it go. The body does look very solid in the photos, so perhaps this would be a good project for a tri-five pro. The car is located in Rochester, New York and is listed here on eBay where bidding is up over $11k. Do you think this car will see the road again before another 40 years pass?

Back in the early seventies this is what my friends and I were all driving. Mine was a ’57 but many friends had the ’55s too. Back then, I would have gave up my spot in Hell and sat on the coal pile to have one this nice. LOL

Holy Bleep! In this nice a condition (with floors & trunk floor intact!) my guess is that it will go MUCH higher. All it looks like it really needs to be a really nice cruiser is about $1,000 worth of engine & trans from the local boneyard! My guess is that it will bring north of $15 – maybe up to 25k as is. (If I didn’t already have my ’57…….)

    Love the brakes on these
So Bob is driving his 55 in Clarkston
We are going 90 to 100
    Not on interstate
Car makes left turn in frontof us
Bob jumps into on cumming lane
    Opps car behind that one
    No where to go
    What brakes
Guy in back seat starts laughing hysterically
I mean Jesus is in my mind shaking his head
Saint Peter is sweeping the welcome mat
I think something with wings helped thread the needle
    No crash nobody peed
Let’s just say we slowed down
Still owe St. Peter for the missed reservation

I know it sits higher because there is no engine but I really like the higher stance of older cars.

This is a really good start to a nice cruiser, just hope the ebay crowd don’t go nuts with silly over priced bids so a true hot rodder can’t buy it. finish it and enjoy it.

My guess, this car could see the road before 40 days passes (after auction close, of course). Certainly within 40 weeks.

Is it just me or does it look like all the floor pans have been replaced (badly)? It’s seems kind of weird to see primered floors all the way back to the trunk on an original car. Plus something looks off at the front and back corners to me.

What I see is “Damp-Proof” Rustoleum primer. I think that some decades ago, that was what many guys used, painted right over surface rust.

@ Rich, that was my first thought too. It will certainly make a nice ’55.
