Perfect Patina: 1951 Chevrolet 3600 Pickup

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This Chevrolet Pickup is complete, but it doesn’t currently run. The new owner would, therefore, have the choice of reviving it or using it as the base for a rat rod or custom project. It is solid, with only a few rust issues to possibly be addressed. Located in Arvilla, North Dakota, it is listed for sale here on eBay.

The owner purchased this Pickup as a project vehicle but has been forced to put it on the market, as he is relocating for work. The vehicle has been sitting since 1983, and he hasn’t had a chance to do much on it at this point. The frame of the Pickup is solid, and while there are a few dings and marks on the body, the only rust is in the driver’s foot-well, and in the running board on the passenger side. As best as I can tell from the photos, the bed looks to be nice and solid.

The 216ci Thriftmaster engine in the Pickup is stuck, so will need either repair or replacement. The owner has begun the process of dismantling the engine, but all the parts are present. The Pickup is also fitted with a 4-speed manual transmission. Given the fact that the Pickup has been sitting for so long, and also the fact that the current owner hasn’t had the opportunity to undertake too much work, there will probably be a bit to do to get this old girl up and mobile again.

The interior is where there is some pretty good news. Not only is the dash complete and unmolested, but the owner is including a complete, new, black interior with the vehicle. This includes the new seat cover that has already been fitted, as well as new door trims, a new headliner, and new sun visors. That should make for a rather nice and classy interior.

At the time of writing, there are at least three people who can see the potential that is locked away in this Chevy, as they have all been bidding on it. This has seen the price rise to $3,051, which seems to be quite modest. I would love to know what each of them plans to do if they win the auction. This is a pretty cool old Pickup, and it will be nice to see it back on the road again.

Great patina on this truck! Unless body has any issues, I’d just look over/update the brakes, drop it to the ground and replace its six with a 63up larger six with some well-chosen mods.
There’s no reserve on this auction so unless bidders start going wild this could be an affordable deal

A 3600 is a decent truck. While it might not be as compact as a 3100 it is still a nice size to use and yet drive around without having to deal with a 9ft. bed. I wouldn’t condemn that 216 until I had a good chance to evaluate it entirely. It might have one slightly stuck cylinder which could be broke loose with a minimum of effort. I’ve unstuck some challenging engines and they turned out just fine. Patina? I’m sure most people who visit this site know my opinion on surface rust. I sure won’t condemn someone else for finishing the truck the way he wants but IMHO it isn’t complete until the paint has been redone. That’s when the steel underneath has a fighting chance. I’m not saying you should slap a multiple thousand dollar paint job on it. You can get paint mixed at most hardware stores. It isn’t the high end stuff but it still has a shine similar to what the truck left the factory with, and for a fraction of what a professional job would cost….

This is almost my dream vehicle. A 1949 Chevy 3100 is my dream truck, and this image makes me drool.
