Perfect Patina: 1967 Ford F-100

This 1967 Ford F-100 short box pickup defines the much-loved or much-hated term patina! It looks like a housepainter’s white pants with all sorts of different color splotches on it, but the seller says that they haven’t touched the paint at all and I’m glad. It can be found here on eBay in Monticello, Arkansas. There is a $4,900 buy it now price listed or you can make an offer.

There is something going on here that I like, no, love. I’m glad that they didn’t paint the white grille and bumpers which someone else may have been tempted to do. I think it looks great, but I would also love it if it had a nice, glossy red paint job. The white walls, red wheels, and dog dish hub caps look great to me, too. We had a ’69 Ford F-250 when I was growing up and I have a thing for these trucks. They have replaced all of the shocks, bushings, brakes, wheel bearings, master cylinder and added all stainless lines for the brakes. Although, the king pins could still use some help.

The seller does mention that this truck has the typical rust on the bottoms of the doors and bed floor but the cab corners look good and the underside was treated with POR. Hagerty is at $4,300 for a #4 fair condition truck and then it jumps up to $10,000 for a #3 good condition truck, so there’s a bit of room for improvement if the next owner wants to pretty it up again. It looks cool as H right now though, in my opinion, especially in short box stature.

For $300 a person can get an OEM-style seat cover which I would probably do, or for $20 you can cover it in an old blanket which would work, too. Add a similar amount for new carpet and you’re ready to go. You can see a third pedal here, cool! It always had a third pedal since birth but not a 4-speed on the floor. It was originally a 3-on-the-tree but it was changed along with a new clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing and new u-joints. The seller has the original transmission and driveshaft if the next owner wanted to restore it back to original spec.

The 300 cubic-inch inline-six was rebuilt and it has new hoses, belts, alternator, and a new fuel pump. This one sounds like it’s ready to go, either drive it as is and get more attention than a Kardashian at Costco or fix the body and paint it to look like new again. What would you do?

    I like this truck! Although I’d prefer a 352 under the hood, the 300 will do everything I ever expected it to do. Fix the body and definitely give it a respray. I would paint it red, or blue; the blue that was available at that time was nice. Get rid of the blotchy paint once and for all!!!

    I had a buddy in high school whose dad had a red 67 F100 like this. I had a 428 out of a late 60’s cop car in it. It was scary fast, but (fortunately?) had traction problems, due to the lack of weight out back. It did WICKED burnouts.

    I would repaint it in the original red, fix the other problems, and go back to the three-on-the-tree. The six cylinder is fine. I have a soft spot for stripper Ford pickups like this. No doubt because my dad had a sequence of them (66, 70, 74, 78, 82) for his oil field job. The last two had…. power steering, and the last one had (amazingly….) an automatic transmission.

    Love this generation F series. The only thing that ever worried me about them was the location of the gas tank (behind the seat).

    I’ve got the same one in LW w/ 352 & 3 on tree w/ OD up on ebay now. I bought from orig owner that done a frame off in ’02 & garage kept. If it wasn’t for a deer taking me out on my HD causing torn rotator cuffs, I’d be keeping her.

        I’m actually not selling it, just making the new wife happy that I showed her I did list it for sale lol! I’m not stupid. Not parting w/ my hobby. I have a C6 at a friends garage now. Just looking for all the other things for him to convert it & then, I’ll have a reason to keep it along w/ getting the surgeries this fall. Have way too much to lose had someone actually went for it.

    amount of rust drivers door
    front corner, was a 390 rebuilt
    (dove) 429 & c6 installed primed
    never run bin under cover on
    block’s 4 30+ yr

    My wife has a thing for these, I drove a bunch of them on farms back in the 1970s. Seems if my memory serves me right they had issues with the autotrans slipping out of park and rolling away if unattended, at least that was the story I heard back then, as it happened with a hay truck during harvest and story went there was a serv bulletin or recall? There is one of these, in green near our vacation property and have waffled over making the guy and offer on it, But he is the type thats difficult to deal with. (Which is why its been sitting as long as it has)

    Step sides are far less common, especially in this generation of Ford trucks, Chevrolets only slightly more, I suppose some one has actual production numbers but a step side would be far more likely a hot rod candidate and thus even less likely to be found as opposed to a Grandpa truck hauled out of a barn or some farm like this one.
    There was a few that had a very unattractive style step side bed in these Fords, at least in my opinion, the beds didnt match the Trucks styling. Couldnt tell you what years but I knew a guy with a yellow one and hated the body lines.
