Period Hot Rod: 1936 Plymouth Coupe

1936 Plymouth Coupe

There are certain cars that have always popular with the hot rodding crowd and the Plymouth Coupe was one of them! This rough looking ’36 Plymouth has somehow survived the years without the body being modified, but it didn’t quite make it without being hot rodded. Whether you’ve been looking for a period hot rod or a car rough enough to not feel bad about modifying the body, this one might be worth taking a closer look at! You can find it here on eBay in Dallas, Texas with a BIN of $4,495. Thanks goes to Matt k for the tip!

Plymouth Coupe

As I stated earlier, this Plymouth is rough. Rust has really taken a hold of it and I even see a few pieces that appear to have rusted right off. On the upside, it hasn’t ever been chopped up! Fixing rust is one thing, repairing someone else’s hack job is a whole other can of worms.

Plymouth Coupe Project

The seller has already pulled this find from the barn and have it rolling. They state that it currently has a 283 V8 and a 3 speed, but they don’t offer any information about either component’s condition. Seeing as they aren’t original, it probably isn’t a deal breaker, but it would be nice to know for sure. The rust will be an issue, but this could be a fun project to fix back up. So would you put this old hot rod back to original or would you keep it as a hot rod?

Somehow the roll bar seems superfluous, given the tight domed roof. The FM converter though is a must-have!

And when the hot rodders were done with them they migrated over to the dirt track demolition derby.

Parting this car out would bring more than 5000.00.

These make much cooler rods than the Fords if the era.

Any of these cars, with this “Willys”, 41 Ford like body style make great looking hot rods. They don’t really interest me as restored cars. To me they look better hot rodded.

Justt bought a 36 Plymouth coupe week. Beautiful cars. My grandfather raced a 35 Chevy but the best I could do was a 36 Plymouth. I’m going going to mock the paint scheme of his race car and surprise him. 35 chevies are almost non-existent but I see a lot of these Mopar couples around.
