British Barn Find: Peugeot 305 Panel Van

040916 Barn Finds - 19xx Peugeot 305 Van - 1

This Peugeot 305 Panel Van is in March, United Kingdom, about a half-hour east of Peterborough. The seller doesn’t list a year of manufacturer but they trickled out the vans for a few years after production of the saloon and estate halted in 1988 and 1989, respectively. This would be very, very unique to drive in the US, there is no question about it. The seller says that it is a “barn find” owned by a friend who had it stored for years and is now selling their house and has to sell this car, too.

The 305 was designed by the famous Italian design firm of Pininfarina. I’m not kidding. The seller says that this is a one-owner vehicle and has been stored for many years, but is “on the key and runs fine.”  The brakes were seized so they had to remove the brake shoes to get it on the trailer, but that shouldn’t be a big project to sort that out. The body looks great, in general, with one nagging spot of rust forming on the LR side.

If any of you have ever settled in to a Peugeot you already know that they have historically made some of the most comfortable car seats ever. These look like they’re in fantastic condition as does the whole interior, at least from the two photos that they provided; both of the front area. Unfortunately, there are no photos of the cargo area which seems odd since that’s what this vehicle is all about. I think that this would be a fun car to own; it’s such a nice, clean, elegant design, in my opinion.

There is no mention of what engine this is but one of you will know from looking at it. It should be either a 1,290cc (1,300) petrol or a 1,548cc (1,550) diesel powered 4-cylinder with about 65 hp in either version. I’m guessing that this is the 1.3L petrol engine, and whatever it is it’s mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. This unique barn find is listed on eBay with heavy bidding, yet the bids are only at £1,175 ($1,660) with less than a day left! I think that this would make a great advertising piece for your business. How would you use this unique Peugeot 305 Panel Van?

Where it’s one built for the Euro market rather than the U.S. market it should be a heck of a lot more reliable.

Description says Petrol (Gasoline) engine. Peugeot diesels are always more reliable. Rare here in the UK as well.

I saw this just down the road to my house about a week ago, driving. These are a rare sight here which is why I noted it and pointed it out to my wife – we’re not that far from Peterborough.

‘F’ on the number-plate signifies it was registered between August 1988 and July 89. I think the van version ceased production in 1991.
