Plaid Seats: 1980 Porsche 911 SC

When it comes to Porsches, it seems the options list bears less and less meaning as it relates to the final price. If it’s an air-cooled 911, it will hammer home north of $20K provided it isn’t rusty or otherwise trashed. Throw in a few interesting and/or desirable options, however, and the price escalates even further. This 1980 Porsche 911 SC features the desirable factory sport bucket seats along with the upgraded limited slip differential. Find it here on eBay where bidding is at $28K with no reserve in place.

While you may not love plaid yourself, this sort of thing is delicious eye-candy to a Porsche enthusiast. Or really, any German car enthusiast, as VW uses such an upholstery style on the modern GTI to the appreciation of fanboys everywhere. The seller doesn’t state this specifically, but the CoA confirms that the original owner specified the sport seat options along with the LSD. What I’m unsure of is whether the plaid inserts are custom or some sort of special order item that the first owner was able to specify directly from the factory.

It’s certainly possible Porsche obliged the wishes of a valued customer if they wanted such a feature installed before taking delivery. Classic Driver provides an excellent overview here of the wide-range of custom interiors Porsche designers created from the 70s to the modern era, often at the request of the rich and powerful. While an owner could have subsequently had an upholstery shop create this unique look, it appears to be so well done that I’m inclined to believe this was a one-off order performed at the factory.

The color scheme of the plaid pattern works quite well with the Silver Metallic exterior, but the CoA provides few clues as to the origins of this interior. It simply says “Black Leather” as the upholstery option, which could potentially still be correct considering the seats clearly started out as black leather assemblies front and rear. Aside from the seats, the 911 is said to be in excellent mechanical condition with few issues to note other than shifter bushings and a right front shock mount. If you’re looking for a Porsche with a unique interior, this is way better than Pasha.

Interesting choices of patterns and materials, these Porsche folks….other than Pasha, that is.

Not the original speedometer (had an 85 mph with miles/kms scale fitted from new), so unless documentation is provided mileage is unknown.

COA will mention sports seats if fitted as factory option.

Still, people should buy if they like the car and it checks out.

The seller should’ve used an official Porsche Design towel to
    cover up the plates.

Remember back just before the P-car boom, a client offered me his mint SC for $10k.
I declined and thought to myself, this guys on crack.

The Header says “Low-mile Survivor”. The speedo and the ad details say 112,000 miles. What constitutes “High” mileage?

You mentioned ‘the CoA confirms that the original owner specified the sport seat options along with the LSD”. The LSD would explain the plaid seats
