Plymouth Rock: 1964 Valiant Wagon

Thanksgiving has arrived, and there are many things to be grateful for including this rock solid surviving Valiant wagon. Very clean on the outside while needing a little help on the interior this classic station wagon is ready to drive for a mere $3,800! Take a look at this beauty here on craigslist out of San Diego, California. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Michael for the solid wagon submission!

and my guess would be that it is ripped and faded. Also the carpet is a bit rough, but a replacement carpet would do wonders for this interior. Thankfully the door panels look nice, as does the steering wheel. The dash pad is also a little crispy after many years of sun exposure. Again, this interior could be spruced up to have a more inviting appearance. Powered by an inline 6, both of the inline 6 engine options offered that year are reliable, and parts are plentiful. Reported as a good runner with no overheating issues, this Valiant looks like a great small wagon project.

Charmingly original in appearance, this wagon looks to need nothing other than regular cleaning. Rust is not immediately apparent from the photos of this wagon, but the seller has been straight up and mentioned that there is rust in the tailgate in the lower corners. Beyond that concern, it would seem this wagon is incredibly solid, with little corrosion concerns. There are a few minor dings, but that is to be expected on a wagon of this age. Clean and clear, the glass is in very nice shape having no delamination issues, or cracks. Although this may not be the most thrilling wagon, this Valiant is a very nice example that could be a fun and enjoyable project to work on and drive. The price is more than reasonable, and besides how often do you see Valiant wagons? Would you be thankful to own this solid Plymouth wagon?

My family had one of these new for several years. Took it to Germany on our Air Force transfer…all seven of us rockin’ down the Autobahn! I’ll bet my dad sure missed his 1953 Jaguar XK-120 a few of those times…

Darn good material for younger family project. Close eyes and imagine, right paint treatment, wheel, tires, mods on motor, and semi custom interior with electronics of radio and monitors, good for family cruise wether burgers or sking, or beach.
And Bowser the hound has its own kennel in rear.

Yes, I have a 65 Valiant wagon that I converted to a 64 2 door hardtop wagon with a Healthy V8 , surfboards, and 17 inch Torque Thrusts.

In appreciation of regular oil changes a slant 6 will serve its master, faithfully, forever.

Someone should buy it; I have no more room otherwise I would. Most older wagons rust where this has rust, do not fear.
The interior is crusty enough so that i would change it to Blue. I’ve had some Valiants and the slant 6 is great. Reliable and reasonable on gas. In later years a 260 V8 was offered but the car is overpowered. Jump on this.

“runs & registered drive home” says the CL ad.

That would be a hell of a drive for me as I live in Boston.

But the call of the Mopar is getting louder. Someday, when I’m ready, I might just find a way to bring one of these “everyday” classics home.

Sweet (even if a little homely) ride.

Sure! right sized, great engine, drive it & fix oem (may B frnt discs).
Happily owned both ’64 & 66 Dart waggys.
Drove the K wagons for livery’n cab co.

Just like the VW invasion in 50’s/60s & Japanese in 70s – 2000ins these were good alternatives (the falcons had it over the brits/germans earlier).

    Beautiful.

About three years ago there was one here in Tucson in the same shape for $2600. Same color and had had a lot of service work done to it.

I even took down the number as it would have been a nice complement to the 63 Valiant Signet I have owned for years.

Parts are easy to find and availability is better than in the 90s pre-internet.

My favorite years of this generation Valiant are 65, 63, 64, and 66.

Chrysler made a lot of one year changes for 66 and sort of tampered with the rounded features of the front, C pillar, rear window and tail lights, squaring off a lot of the distinctiveness of the design.

I have a 65 Valiant wagon that I put a 64 front cap and taillights on. I loved the 64. Now it’s being converted to a 2 door hardtop. With nice wheels, tires, and cosmetics, these Valiant wagons become a Totally different animal. Lookup the white 64 V8 Valiant station wagon on YouTube at a car show. It is Wicked.
