Porsche 912 Project Pair

Porsche-912-projects

Here is a pair of 912s that have seen better days. Their kind was often neglected and discarded because they were never esteemed as highly as their big brother, the 911. They had the looks, but they were lacking two cylinders. The character that made the 911 an icon was still present though and collectors are starting to take notice. Both of these particular cars require full restorations, but which would you pick? The grey ’68 is fairly complete and will start. The red ’66 is missing most everything including its floors, but it was one of the first ever built. Take a closer look here on TheSamba where the seller is asking $5k and $3k respectively.

I’d take the grey one…closer to being on the road and an overall easier project to save. But both cars are worth saving for sure. Why someone painted over the factory yellow to make a red one is beyond me. That yellow is a nice color.

I think I would take both, assuming they are both the same type and all parts are interchangeable I would take both as we can clearly see that the silver one needs a windscreen to complete it basicly it looks like if you take the two you would be ale to mostly finish the silver one with what parts you can transfer from the red one, on the other hand the red one cold be worth more once finished considering it was one of the first so you could do the same to that but in reverse.

Expensive cars to restore, but parts are generally available and of good quality from multiple sources, including Porsche.

The ’68 is a lot closer to being complete, so I’d take it. ’68 is a year with unique trim which can be challenging. The rear disc brakes are unobtanium.

think I’d let earlier car go………

These are certainly neglected frankenPorsches, but assuming they are not bad underneath (a big assumption that I’m not necessarily making, even if they are in L.A….there are no underside pics) these are definitely underpriced, and I’ll be surprised if they are not gone soon. TheSamba is read by many of the planet’s P-car experts/fanatics, and they will know that 912s are on a sharply rising value curve and that someone, somewhere will restore them, sometime, despite the high costs.
