Potential Bargain: 1964 Chevrolet Corvair

1964 Chevrolet Corvair

The photos of this 1964 Corvair caught my eye, but the seller’s listing was a bit of a let down. The only words in the description are, “Car is being sold as is. Please email with any questions.” Wow, you’d think it would be easier to write a couple of sentences than to field emails from every single interested party. We can decipher a few things from the listing though. The engine is listed as a 110hp so that tells us that it has the midrange engine. It also has a manual transmission and is obviously a convertible. Not bad. So, as long as there isn’t a bunch of rust underneath, the seller’s lack of information could work to your benefit. Fewer people will bid on a car that doesn’t have a detailed description and lots of photos. You’ll want to be sure to do your own due diligence though. The car is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and can be found here on eBay where bidding starts at $200.

Your absolutely right why not describe the car in detail once than answer 30 emails asking different questions, pretty time consuming IMO. But if you look at ebay anymore most people don’t have a clue how to take decent photos and write up a description that is decent length but to the point describing the car / truck.

Had a ’63’ just like this, and this one looks to be in really nice condition if the rust is limited to what we can see from the pictures, and everything looks to be correct incl. those seats. A little unstable in a tight turn, but otherwise a pretty nice little ride. These aren’t bringing a lot of bucks and it certainly is not a collector item, but would be fun to have.

Lack of info and detailed pics make anything but a local sale tough.

From what is shown things look good, a tight fitting top and clean interior is a good start. ’64s had the transverse spring for those worried about wheel tuck.

I’m a big fan of the early design and the car’s history is incredibly interesting and far reaching (even Nader aside).

This clown is the same type of seller, who would run an ad for some super popular car, have it priced below market value and then be away, out of town for a week. It doesn’t make any logical sense. We don’t know if it run’s,brakes going to work, assume battery is dead. This has to take the award for the most idiotic ad I’ve seen all year. So to the seller, the “Eye dee 10 tee” Award is all your’s!!!! Prize must be redeemed at the station,we allow only one winner per household. Winner is responsible for any taxes and fee’s……..blah,blah,blah

this looks to be rather rusty and poorly repaired. Look closely at the left front fender under the fuel filler. Wavy as an ocean wave

    Boy, I dunno.
Based on where I see rest creeping in the few photos, there could be a very significant amount of bondo in this car’s body.
For certain, a personal inspection is warranted.
The interior appears to be clean, which is a big plus, but the condition of the drivetrain is an unknown.
