This 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 has a salvage title and probably an interesting history. It was recently discovered in a private collection after sitting for many years. The car was apparently salvaged back in 1989 and saved from a salvage yard. This DeLorean DMC-12 is listed here on eBay and is located in Lutz, Florida. The eBay auction has 5 days remaining and the car is bid to $16,600. It is listed at no reserve. The seller reports the odometer reading at 44,640 miles. Unfortunately, the car is not running and is being listed as nonoperable.
In 1981, this car came in two interior colors: black and silver. This one has a black vinyl interior, which is reportedly in good condition except for a chunk of the seat that can be seen that is missing from the passenger seat and wear on the driver’s seat. The DeLorean was offered with either a 5-speed manual transmission or automatic transmission. This car has the automatic transmission which by most reports is less favorable than the manual option. The seller states that the car will not go in park so they leave it in neutral. The description of the car is lengthy to the credit of the seller and mentions all the problems with the car, including rust, that they are aware of.
Upon its release, many potential buyers expressed dissatisfaction with the DeLorean’s acceleration and power. All DeLorean’s featured a 2.85-liter SOHC V6 engine that generated 130 horsepower and 153 lb-ft of torque, manufactured by Peugeot-Renault-Volvo and installed at the DeLorean facility. Although commonly referred to as the DMC-12, this designation was based on the original target price of $12,000, whereas the final MSRP was set at $25,000. The seller is not sure if the engine is original or if it runs. The car is being sold for a parts car and might make a good conversion project to a modern powerplant.
the front windshield is cracked but the external body panels look acceptable. Some components such as the taillights, engine air filter assembly, center top roof section and vented rear hatch are just sitting in position and not bolted or secured in place. The seller states that the vehicle rolls and steers but is nonoperable under its own power. The doors and trunk are open for the photos to avoid issues with reopening them if fully shut. There are missing parts including the front turn signal, steering column bottom plastic, latches, and the body section behind the rear wheel. The car has imperfections including dings, dents, blemishes, and scratches.

It’s time (pun intended )to put a 572 crate engine in it. You’ll get back to the future must faster.
As a parts car this should do pretty good. I see a few lug nuts gone. Many photos!!
Junked after 8 years w/44,000 miles. One can only wonder about it’s past. The craziest part is the almost $17,000 bid.
I remember when there was like 2000 of them sitting in a storage yard in NJ, by the Feds, when DeLorean got busted. They sat there for like 2 years, brand new.
I think it needs a new fluxcapacitor.
Someone needs to step up and make this a resto-mod or pro-streeter! If only I had more money and time….
Derek at VGG could have a pair of bookends!!
Sold $23,682, 43 bids.
