Project Truck Find: 1976 Dodge Ramcharger SE Removable-Top

Dodge didn’t build the Ramcharger in huge numbers compared to some of its rivals, and the early removable-top trucks are getting harder to find each year. This 1976 Dodge Ramcharger SE listed here on eBay is described by the seller as a “collector-grade” project and one of the removable-top editions, but it will need some overhauling throughout. It comes with a clean title and is equipped with a V8, 4WD, and a manual transmission, an appealing combination for those who appreciate vintage SUVs with a more old-school driving feel.

According to the listing, this Ramcharger SE features a Sunstone exterior with a white interior, in bad need of full repair, and shows 125,000 miles. The truck is offered by a private seller who notes that it would make a great addition for a collector. Ramchargers from this era offered a similar formula to the early Blazers and Broncos, but Dodge’s take came with its own personality and a reputation for ruggedness. The top on these early models can be removed, turning them into open-air cruisers that can offer a unique experience, especially during the summer months.

The seller shares that this example is equipped with a manual transmission and four-wheel drive, paired with either a 318 or 360 V8. Manual-equipped 4×4 SUVs from the 1970s continue to gain interest in the collector world, and the SE trim added some comfort and visual enhancements when new. While the ad is short on detail, it positions this Ramcharger as a “collector’s project,” while it seems to lean more towards an enthusiast grade project, for now, but it has potential either way.

The clean title noted in the listing helps, as many decades-old project rigs come with registration hurdles. For someone who’s specifically been waiting for a removable-top Ramcharger, this could be a promising starting point, especially since Dodge trucks of this era are seeing more attention from enthusiasts who want something different than the usual Ford or Chevy.

Whether restored to stock or lightly modified for trail duty, this Ramcharger SE seems like the kind of project that could reward the right buyer. Would you preserve its original truck-and-trail personality, or would you build it into a roof-off weekend cruiser?

Famous last words “ran when parked” 🤣. All joking aside, I’d like to have another pop -top Ramcharger. This one looks decent. I think they lost a lot of their character in ’81 with the solid roof.

need to get someone to change the algorithm. A Dodge Ramcharger, or any other MoPar, should never be in the AMC section.
