This car is located in Los Angeles, California and has been owned by the seller for over 40 years and has spent most of its life covered in the back of his shop. Equipped with a 454 cubic inch V8 engine and automatic transmission, this was the largest cubic inch engine placed between the front wheels of a Corvette. The car is listed for sale for $30,000 and can be seen here on Facebook Marketplace. The War Bonnet Yellow paint is said to be original.
The black interior shows that the car looks very original and has air conditioning. The owned states that the odometer reading is less than 100,000 miles and the car has always been parked inside. What is cool about these C3s is the rear window pops out which would be fun when you roll down the windows and take the t-tops off.
The seller says the motor needs a full service and has never been cleaned which is obvious in this picture. The rusty master cylinder would give me some concern and I would want to inspect the birdcage. While it doesn’t say, this Corvette is most likely equipped with the LS5 454 cubic inch V8 engine. It delivered 365 horsepower in 1971 and was very streetable. Many enthusiasts refer to the LS5 motor as an Everyday Big Block.
While there are not too many pictures of this car, I get the feeling that is has been parked for 40 years like the owner states. Unless it is a LS6, I think it is priced too high in today’s marketplace. Let me know your opinion.
An ex-girlfriends father had one of these with a four speed drove it a couple times with him in the car!! It took all my will power not to cram that pedal to the floor!! His was orange with black interior and T-tops!! It was a great car!!!
Shame that chevy never opened the wallet and put a proper automatic in these. Saddle that big block with a pos powerslide is just wrong
Huh? You SURE it’s not a TH400? I have a numbers matching 71 with 454 and TH400…….
Chuckster, maybe when the Corvette first got the BBC, they may have had the PG, but Don’t think any of the C3’s received the PG trans.
Powerglide was only available through 1967 in Corvettes. Starting in 1968 Turbo Hydra-Matic was the automatic that was used.
Lost me at autoboring.
Overpriced by 10K. I;ve seen lower mileage, very clean cars with 4sp for $25k-$30k and $35k will get you a local car show winner quality. And no 71 ever had a PG, they were all TH400’s with special valving. Go to Mecum in Harrisburg..Tons of C-3’s there and quite a few going for good prices.
That’s what I was thinking, 20k is fair, with the amount of cash and labor needed to get it back on the road. Sweet car thou.
The stuff dreams are made of… I’m not into Corvettes, but could make an exception with this one!
GM put the BBC in the C3 according to the MARTI and the VIN which led to the TH400 instead of the PG . The QT at the JIT delivered it ASAP to VIP PDQ. RSVP, LOL.
Way too high. Yet another dreamer watching too much Barrett Jackson.
The LS6 was not available with AC, so, yeah, LS5. There are plenty of 454’s with Powerglides, but they are all RACE CARS. The reason GM didn’t put TH400’s in Corvettes until ’68 had to do with the size of the trans tunnel, it required a redesign…
Here’s your motor for the 454 Chevelle listed elsewhere.
