Needs Work. Ran Good When Parked!

Restoration Project

The seller of this restoration project wins the most optimistic seller award! They state, “Needs Work. Ran good when parked. Can’t be driven – bring a tow truck.” It’s located on Whidbey Island in Washington and is listed here on craigslist for $28. Can anyone figure out what it even is? Thanks goes to Regan P for this humorous find! R.W.P.

Are you for real or joking? Picking this up would be an adventure worth a few photos we’d all like to see.

Well, it makes me think of a milk delivery truck – maybe a RIO. Or perhaps a ’50-’60 ice cream vehicle.

Andrew I think you are close, it’s actually James Dean’s 550. Finally it’s been found along with Jimmy Hoffa who was in the back.

I think it is a Divco milk truck missing the front end bodywork.

1950-60’s Ice cream truck. I can hear the tunes now: “The Mister Softee Jingle”, “Turkey in the Straw”, “Do Your Ears Hang Low?, “Pop Goes The Weasel”, “The Entertainer”, “Music Box Dancer”, “Home on the Range”,

Someone could make some type of artwork or furniture out of it. Black & white pics of it with a nice camera in the right light, it could be really cool.

I’m really curious what this is. I don’t think it is a Divco or Metro based on the rear pressed panel where a window could be (window delete). Another note of contention might be the distance from the roof overhang to where the axle would be.

I believe its a 1954 international panel delivery. To small to be a divco milk truck, and definitely not a VW.

I say, go tell Dumbledore the house elfs have been very naughty again. They’ve popped into the liquor cubbord again. Mind you I’ll send the Dementores after the lot. DWI indeed.

Just did some checking, most trucks went to the door glass slanted in the front edge from 1937 and on. It does look like a 1936 international panel delivery. Looked at on on ebay the doors look the same and international built alot of them back then.

Maybe… Don’t you think the side glass on this is too square?

Which model do you think? Maybe a 36/37 SF.

Small size, narrow width, and sliding doors suggest it may be one of the lesser series of postal vans. Doesn’t look like any of the small Renault or Ford of England vans,

Maybe he’ll go as low as $23.

Pull it out of the bushes, leave the patina, put in a Camero or chevy2 front clip and install a crate 350 and you on the road. as money becomes available maybe upgrade the brakes to 4 wheel disc and clean out the inside with a leaf blower.

    It’s all doable……

Check the roof transition to the windshield, I don’t think that mimics the Metro…

      The mystery has me too!

The whole windshield area is gone, and whatever caused that to happen, and that big patch of stuff growing on that part of the roof may have distorted it. I am thinking the cabover style metro instead of the pickup cab one. Great find and great mystery.
