Rare Barn Find: 1993 Ford F150 Lightning

While we all tend to grow weary of sellers who bark at us that they’ve got no time for dreamers, I can sometimes understand it when it comes to certain vehicles that likely bring all the tire kickers out of the woodwork. Throw in the fact that it’s a vehicle we rarely see in a barn find state – which lends itself to a lower price of entry than typically available – and I’m sure the seller of this just-discovered 1993 Ford F150 Lightning pickup has had to beat the time-wasters off with a stick. These trucks have been appreciating nicely as of late, and this one still runs despite being laid up for some time. Find the Lightning here on Facebook Marketplace for $6,500.

Created by the skunkworks team at SVT, the Lightning pickup joined an emerging field of 1990s muscle trucks, showing that you could own a vehicle with an open bed that could still haul and handles better than the standard-issue model. Although your opinion may differ, road test editors at the time seemed to think the main competitor, the Chevy SS pickup, was more of the straight line champ, while the SVT Lightning was also impressively quick with better road-holding abilities than the blacked-out, 454-equipped truck. Today, both vehicles command a fair price in excellent condition, so it’s no surprise to see the seller asking real money for a running example.

Yes, it will likely need a full paint job, and who knows what else. The original “Lightning” decals are still on the sides of the bed, which would suggest that it hasn’t been previously repainted. You could likely even get away with just respraying the nose and trying your hand at some paint correction to see how closely the two ends matched. The truck is located in Galloway, New Jersey, and it sure seems likely the rear end was parked under cover while the nose was left to the elements, given the sun fade pattern. Mileage is indicated as being 135,000, which isn’t any worse than average for the year, and it appears to remain in stock condition.

Pictures of the cabin aren’t the greatest, but the seller reports the only real need it has beyond paint is a replacement brake line. The photos do show the rear fender on the driver’s side has some rot, which is pretty typical for these trucks when found in the northeast or other snow belt states; the fact that the seller doesn’t mention it is slightly concerning, but at least there’s a photo. The interior upholstery looks decent enough, and at least the embroidered Lightning logo isn’t trashed. Overall, the price may still be slightly high for what it is, but you rarely get a chance to bring an SVT Lightning pickup back to life with simple cosmetic improvements.
