Rare Color Combo: 1995 Dodge Viper RT/10

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Two things I love: the early production Dodge Viper RT/10, and the Viper RT/10 in any color other than red over gray. So, needless to say, I like this 1995 Dodge Viper RT/10 quite a bit. It’s a low-mileage example with just 25,000 miles on the clock, and the rare color combination of Emerald Green over gray leather. Everything else is the same, from the side-exit exhaust to the tri-spoke wheels to the crude construction, but that unique color scheme just makes it seem a bit less raucous than the standard flame red exterior we’re accustomed to seeing. Find the Viper here on craigslist for $39,500 in Newport Beach.

Also, can we just acknowledge that $40,000 is a still a heck of a deal for a classic muscle car like the Viper? In a collector car world where the prices of anything decent just seem to be going up and up, being able to buy a collector-grade vehicle with still-impressive performance for well under $50,000 is unheard of. While the new Corvette may be a better out of the box performer, I wouldn’t have the slightest interest in paying the difference in cost for one of those versus a car like this. This Viper also happens to be in very nice shape, owing to its low mileage and apparently careful ownership.

It’s amazing what a difference a change in color can make for a car that is typically written off as being poorly constructed and about as sophisticated as a drunk breaking chairs over the side of the bar. Now, a different coat of paint doesn’t change the fact that the Viper RT/10 is a bit rough around the edges, but it does give off a subtly more mature aura than red or yellow. The seller claims he has looked after the Viper like any good steward should, and it sounds like the next owner will get a decent stack of records with their purchase.

The Viper is often overlooked as a supercar that has relatively tame maintenance costs compared to other cars in this category. The Acura NSX is often heralded as a “cheap” exotic owing to its reasonble upkeep requirements, but the Viper RT/10 should be in the same conversation. Yes, tires are expensive, and consumables are always going to be more of a burden with any car in this segment, but for the purchase price and the manageable annual repair bills. this is still one of the best values going in the 1990s supercar category. Never have seen one of these in green, better looking than any of the other offerings that I remember seeing. Seen a couple of red and black even yellow but this color looks like the parts all fit together. Price isn’t too bad for a low mileage example. They sound so good, just can’t play with fire, they will burn you if you slip up. Ain’t no computer going to bail you out!

I worked at a dodge dealership when these came out. The first one we had was green.

Wasn’t this posted yesterday for what commenters were saying was the third time? Apparently that post was taken down.

Odd that it hasn’t sold by now as it’s been on CL off and on for a while and the price seems reasonable enough. Maybe it’s the green.

While maintaining a Viper may have been on the low end of exotic/supercar ownership ask, insuring one was not. As a classic it may be better. First generation rode like a buckboard,, sounded like a milk truck and the sills could burn you, and none of that mattered.

The only one I ever got to sit in was this color green, at a dealer.

I remember walking into the Mack Avenue Viper Plant and seeing a “Black” Viper Roadster with a tag on the Windshield Jay Leno on it. It also had special sill covers painted silver installed on the car. I wonder if Mr. Leno still has this Viper Roadster? I used to be the Mopar Representative that worked with Team Viper on getting hard to find Viper/Prowler parts from 1992 to 2001.

He did an episode of Jay Leno’s Garage about it. Look it up.

I must live in a dream world as I’ve never noticed the shortcomings where these are concerned. A “drunk breaking chairs” may fit a Yugo or other third world production, but these always filled my wants regardless of color. Only complaint may be the heat that builds up in the cab when closed up.
