Rare & Rusty: 1959 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery

59

This unusual 1959 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery was sent in by Barn Finds reader Sheen B.–thanks for the find! It was used as a florist’s delivery vehicle it’s entire life, as far as I can tell in Gastonia, North Carolina based on what I can read of the period signage. It’s being sold from Charlotte, North Carolina and is being auctioned here on eBay. Bidding is just over $1,500 but the reserve hasn’t been met yet. There’s a lot of rust–all over, inside and out. The seller has some NOS front fenders that they will sell separately if interested, but the vehicle needs a lot more than that. The original inline six and three-speed manual are still in place, so that’s a start. I admit to loving painted signage on commercial vehicles, but I’m not sure I’m willing to take on something with this much rust. Rather than passing on this one, I’m interested in how you would go about resurrecting it if for some reason you made that decision–let us know in the comment section.

It just amazes me how much junk goes on Ebay . Between Craigslist and Ebay nobody else has a chance . You’d think that if anybody at Amazon had brains they’d start Amazon Auto. I guess there are not enough gear heads running Amazon.

You would really have to want a 59 sedan delivery to bring this back to life. With all that rust, it’s not even worth it.

’59 Chevy’s were butt ugly when new and shiny. They did not improve when they got old and rusty. No thanks.

this is a VERY difficult project for a super-skilled body man.
only those willing to be spectacularly upside down in the finished product need apply.
how much station wagon sheet metal will interchange?
even if that’s possible a clean donor wagon would be very tough to find too……

This would certainly be a nice and rare advertiser, if you had a related business.
My guess the reserve is hovering in the mid 4 digits and will be hard to swallow even by the die hardest fans of these.

“extra cargo space can be found behind the driver’s seat”…..
NO kidding ! …… I would say limitless space there…..
looks like the whole car is somewhat perforated and every panel needs attention…

the way that hatch is currently sitting , I am guessing the hinges are torn from wherever they were attached.
This needs a serious and hopefully independently wealthy metal worker to restore….
