Re-Assembly Needed: 1968 Chevy Impala

What do I fear the most about project car ownership? Taking something apart and never putting it back together. Right now, my BMW 320’s engine is in pieces with a machine shop, where it’s been for the past eight months. I wonder how likely it is parts are missing by now. Well, the seller of this 1968 Chevy Impala here on eBay isn’t taking that chance and is cutting his project loose for someone else to restore.

The seller claims this is a solid basis for a restoration, as the Impala was purchased from the original owner in 1998. He bought it with 38,000 miles on the clock and has put another 30,000 on it in the time he’s owned it. After disassembling it for restoration, the project stalled and now it needs to go. He claims all the original parts have been carefully stored.

The Impala will come with a freshly rebuilt 327. The seller is a bit vague as to whether this is a numbers-matching unit, but I do like that he’s bored it out a bit and added a higher-performance camshaft. The Impala does have some rust but is said to be a super straight car that has never been in an accident.

The interior doesn’t look bad, though the driver’s section of the bench will need a recover. The Impala looks like a great starting point for either a full-scale restore or simply building a nice driver. It appears the car has been stored indoors all this time, so it has that going for it. The listing is a reserve auction with the magic number still unmet. What’s this survivor worth?

I prefer the look of the fastback body style to the formal roof line but, this one is only seven miles from my house…
Alas, there’s no money, and no space for another project right now. Depending on the reserve, this could be a good buy.

My dad had a 1967 impala it was the fast back but other than that it was very similar to this car. It was one of those car that as a kid you wish dad would have kept. If he had I would still have it today. Nice car.

My uncle had this same car but a black vinyl top
He called it his poor man’s caprice
The impala custom and caprice had the same roofline line
He just wouldn’t pay the extra for the caprice upgrade

These are nice cars .This one needs to be finished so that needs to be figured into the price .As long as the reserve isn’t crazy this could be a kool project.
