SOLD
Our good friends over in Australia might be able to find a Willys Ute, but over here in the States, you just don’t find any late ’30s examples quite like this one. That’s probably due to the fact that they were never officially sold here. This one has to be one of, if not the only, one imported from Australia and it looks to be in beautiful condition! It needs some work, but starts and runs great. Reader Jeff S needs to find a good home for it, so be sure to take a look at his ad via the link below!
Asking Price: $35,000

Take one of the cutest cars ever and have it be a ute and with a reasonable price to boot, it won’t last long. Wish I could.
I have seen way dumber choices for more money. I’m with doug – if my bank account would allow – I’d be all over this.
That whole car is made of Unobtainium. Beautiful and one of a kind!!
Good luck to the new owner.
This is the only one of these I’ve ever seen. Very unique hauler.
There is also a 39 Willys roadster pickup fully restored over here in oz
Would love to see a picture of a roadster pickup/ute 39 Willys
Didn’t know this existed. The reason I come to BF daily- to see something I’ve never seen!
You need to show more pictures if you want to sell for $35,000.
This is no doubt a rare and collectible vehicle to the right person. However, to each his own as they say. I can think of a lot more cars I would rather spend 35K dollars for that are 30-32 years (1969-1971) newer than this with either a small or big block engine.
I agree RoughDiamond. Well said.
Cute ute.
Is it left or right hand drive? Here in Australia it would be an attractive proposition if RHD.
If originally imported from here then maybe it’s RHD.
I’m trying to work out where ‘near Australia’ the Army General may have been posted? Papua New Guinea?
You don’t need a lot of pics when your search words/phrase is Gasser Ratrod Classic Flathead Boner. Sounds like my wife describing me
I know Ute probably stands for Utility, but all I can think about is Joe Pesci in “My Cousin Vinnie” trying to say “Youths” with a heavy Brooklyn accent “Utes”.
Actually there are a few Willys utes in the US. I personally imported both a 1933 Model 77 roadster Ute and a 1940 Model 440 Ute a decade ago. Both are still in the US. I know of a handful of others but yes they are super rare and Jeff’s is a very nice example.
One the one hand, a unique ute like this is a unicorn-type opportunity, and I’d be proud to be the one to bring it home. On the other hand, a seller asks 35 THOUSAND dollars for a vehicle, then posts only two mediocre photos and a 17-word description?!? I know it’s Craigslist and thus a low bar for expectations, but seriously, this is pathetic. Sounds to me like the wife (or husband) says “sell that darned thing, I’m tired of looking at it”, so the owner says “sure”and creates a lame advert to virtually assure a non-sale.
Years ago, I paid $35 for my ’38 Willys sedan; My, how the world has changed.
Isn’t it the same as in the movie Australia. The copper drove.
that beak looks like it’ll cut the air waves purdy good.
I understand the Hudson Big Boy is a lill nicer in the ‘box’.
I like the patio picture. Wonder if the sale of this pretty nice one will finance getting the other 2 on the road. That gasser is just longing for a motor….
