If you want a big luxury coupe that also has lots of power, this Monte Carlo might just be the car you’re looking for! It’s equipped with the 402 V8, which is said to be in good working order and offers more than enough power to get this beast up to speed quickly. Be sure to take a closer look at it in Anthony’s ad via the link below!
Asking Price: $16,900
Location: Port Chester, New York
Mileage: 126,000 Original
Title Status: Clean
VIN: 1H57U2R558819
Seller’s Description: In 1972 Chevy built 180,000+ Monte Carlos, less than 9,000 of those had the 402 big block. This one is all original with matching numbers engine and transmission. This car was optioned with the Turbo 400 transmission, 12 bolt rear, a/c, bucket seats with staple shifter. I’m pretty sure this car was built to specs per the original owner, which might make it even rarer. It needs restoration but is all there and runs strong. This Monte has been stored since 1983 and is fresh out of the barn! The floor pans and trunk are all solid, but one rot spot behind the rear glass before the deck lid, (small repair).
Body Condition: There are dents and dings, no visible rot though. It’s been stored from the weather for many years and looks good.
Mechanical Condition: The motor and transmission are strong, has original factory glass packs (one has a small hole in it). It needs brakes and probably a brake line.
Special thanks to Anthony for listing this barn find with us and we hope we can find a good home for it! While it definitely needs work, it looks like it could be a fun classic to cruise town in. If you have a luxury barn find, please consider selling it here on Barn Finds!

Absolutely beautiful. One of my dream cars.
My very first car in blue with a white painted top. Best car I ever had by far.
The SS454 Monte was RARE! If it had a 4 speed it would be rare. I wouldn’t say 1 of 9,000 is rare, would you? Nice car but $16,900??………seriously!?! $70k when done??……..where are they getting these numbers from? 72 is the least desirable year of the 70-72 run! 70 being the hottest year of the Monte, especially the SS454 Monte.
Its a beautiful classic Chevy but the asking prices are lately becoming out of control !!!
I’ve been in the car hobby since these cars were new. I’ve heard the shifter called a stirrup or horseshoe, but never a staple. I guess that you learn something new every day!
I’ve always heard it called a horseshoe shifter. Never heard it called a staple shifter…….until now.
Factory glass-packs? Was that really an option? I’ve heard of the chamber exhaust on the 69 Camaros but never factory glass packs on a 1972 car.
Were glass packs ever a factory option on any car outside the early Shelby’s? Thought they were a bit loud for some localities especially on a brand new luxury sporty coupe like this. Still a neat car, a break from the usual SS Chevelles and Camaros.
From the only picture listed here this car looks like an old beat up family car sitting in the driveway.
Can somebody explain, first what are the numbers on the windshield, and why the interior looks like the car was in a flood?
Fresh from an auction lot, soon to be flipped.
“SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY This car will be worth $ 70K when finished”
Who has ever paid 70K for a 1972 Monte Carlo?
16900 This Gentleman bumped his head. JS. This bodystyle MC is my next build
more like 6900 and 17k restored. 70k is numbers matching LS6/LS5 70 Chevelle money.
As to the money, if this was a Chevelle SS he might get it. I don’t think so for a Monte tho.
I would say high four figures, though people are pretty dumb with money lately. It’s getting a lot easier to find the coveted “right buyer” (i.e. a person who will pay too much) with 401ks maturing at all.
Had a gold 1970 in about 1998. Same vinyl top, 402, horseshoe shifter, Corvette ralleys. I put an Edelbrock intake, Holley 650, and Hedman headers on mine, made run like a completely different car. I have a very small list of cars I wish I still owned, and the Monte Carlo is at the top of it.
Such the optimist this seller!
Great potential, yes, but, shouldn’t one at least clean the towing and or auction writing off the windshield prior to advertising?
Rare??? Really?.. lol
What’s this guy smokin….
