Reader Ad: 1974 Chevrolet K5 Blazer 4×4

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Chevrolet’s square body generation of trucks have always been popular, but in the past few years, they have really been gaining interest. Like the short bed trucks, the Blazer has become sought after by more than just the off-roading crowd. Reader Michael C has decided to part ways with this 1974 Blazer K5 Convertible. It’s a project but runs and drives as is. While it’s located in Escondido, California, the license plate is a University of Wyoming plate, which means this truck was likely used around campus by maintenance. UW’s campus isn’t particularly large, explaining the low mileage, and the harsh winters would explain the rust. If you bleed Brown and Gold or just want a convertible K5, be sure to check out Michael’s ad via the link below.

Asking Price: $9,000
Location: Escondido California
Mileage: 50,000
Title Status: Clean
VIN: CKV184F167051

Seller’s Description: Full convertible… They only made this square body full convertible from 1973-1975. This one has covered just 50k miles.

Body Condition: Has rust and needs restoration. The frame is solid.

Mechanical Condition: It starts and drives.

Add some brown and this truck would be the perfect Cowboys tailgater! It sure would be interesting to know the story of how it ended up in California. So, would you take on restoring this 4×4? And if so, would you leave it in gold?

this is a very reasonable starting price for a full top-off version of the K5 in this condition.
thankfully it isn’t close by….might be tempted to make three full size Blazers in the fleet that don’t get driven.

Are you kidding? 9K for a beat up truck?

Spoken by someone who clearly doesn’t follow the K5 market. Nice price.

no joke. these flexi-fliers with fully-removable top bring a premium over nicer full-cab models & are in high demand.

maybe people want to play Chief Brody?

we’ve got a pair of later model full-cab ones & both show no evidence of the rear bolt-on cover ever being removed.

k5’s are so hot right now…..

I’m with you, Miguel. I looked at one last spring in Petaluma, CA, for $5-6K that was much nicer condition than this one, but was a few years newer. Maybe the 73-75 full-top versions command a much higher premium? Andre – is that true?

In my experience they’re in a different league. Full tops command a lot of coin. I’m well experienced with 67-72 C10s and square bodies but have never actually owned a K5. Unless it’s a steal I wouldn’t unless it was a full top – and I’d pay the premium.. For whatever that’s worth.

Being from California I can see it has little rust but if it was in the Midwest like the 78 Blazer I had there would be nothing left of the body at this point in time. These Chevys rusted from the inside out but usually still ran so the motors were donated to another Chevy.

I simply MUST find this book, “Pricing Classic Vehicles for 2020, and Beyond”, just to see where these prices are coming from? K5’s are rare, but not that rare, at least a half a dozen alone in my small town. Sad really, I know people up north that would love another Blazer, unfortunately, the price puts it out of the hands of people that could actually use one again, to drive. Their Blazer plow truck hasn’t been roadworthy for years. The one in the link would be considered a good one still, up north, until the doors don’t close anymore, that is.

Howard mine was the same color as the one you posted the link to but mine was rusted way worse than that but it still ran when I yanked the engine and trans then junked the body.

This is a good project truck. Considering the sheetmetal work that needs to be done I would have a hard time fitting a restoration in with the purchase price. But that’s MY budget, not someone else’s. Just the same I would love to have a ’73-’74 Blazer. A guy in my hometown had a ’73 which he drove forever. It was in real good shape until his fiancé used it for a couple of years when she went through nursing school in Chicago. It was never the same after that and they eventually scrapped it. I found that out too late or I would’ve bought it off him, rust holes and all.

does anyone really think this is a 50,000 mile truck? really, on a 44 year old vehicle.
however i just bought a 87 dodge ramcharger with only 65,000 miles, and i’m sure it is correct.
